27th August 2012 - Kingswood maintain perfect start

With Southmead CS Athletic having their fixture at Thornbury Town postponed due to a waterlogged pitch this gave challengers Henbury and Tuffley Rovers the opportunity to gain ground on Saturday’s leaders.

Henbury have moved to the top of the table with a 2-0 win at strugglers Chipping Sodbury Town. Henbury opened the scoring after 18 minutes after a long ball out of defence reached the Sodbury 18 yard box and a terrible mix up between the home keeper and the centre back allowed Aaron Anglin to nip in steal the ball and roll it into an empty net. A second goal by Henbury was a brilliant piece of play between Gary Clark, Adam Rosser and Ben Sandle and a superb cross to Aaron Anglin on the edge of the box for the striker to sweep the ball home. Henbury were well in command and should have increased their lead on several occasions.

Tuffley Rovers are lying third in the table on the same number of points as Southmead but the Bristol Club has a game in hand and a better goal difference. They really went to town in their first home fixture of the season with a 5-1 win over lowly Berkeley Town. The Stars of the game was Shane Bradley who netted a hat-trick and Warren Mann who supplied all the crosses for Bradley and another for Jordon Cooper to score. Rovers ran riot in the first 18 minutes going into a 4-0 lead. Jordan Cooper headed home the opening goal from Warren Mann’s cross from the right after 8 minutes and three minutes later Shane Bradley netted the first of his three goals again Warren Mann was the provider. Then two further goals from Shane Bradley on 11 minutes and 16 minutes both from crosses sent over by Mann out on the right. Berkeley pulled one back on 43 minutes from a Mike Reece free kick that totally deceived the Rovers keeper Mark Harris. Tuffley made it five in the 77th minute when Mark Ford headed home from a corner.

Yate Town Reserves dismal run of form continued when they went down 2-1 at home to D.R.G. Frenchay. Jack Parker was on target for the home side and D.R.G’s goal scorers were Mike Connell and Ben Burrell.

The game between Kingswood and Frampton United ended with a 3-0 win for the home side. This win along with the other two games that Kingwood have won is then best start to the season they have had for a long time. The win today has elevated them into 4th place in the table netting 5 goals and as yet they have not conceded. They are the only club to have no goals against in the league. The first 14 minutes of the game saw both sides trying their best to get the upper hand and it came rather unexpectedly in the 15th minute when Simon Clark unleashed a powerful drive from 35 yards out on the right that flew straight at Frampton’s keeper Dan Borg but he misjudged the flight and the ball slipped through his hands and crept over the line. A minute later Borg made up for his mistake with a brilliant save from a Ryan Mudd shot. Frampton applied some pressure on the home defense, with several shots that looked on target being blocked by the home defenders. Kingswood’s Ryan Mudd almost made it 2-0 in the 30th minute as he latched onto a long ball from his keeper that cleared the Frampton defense but his shot on target was well saved by Borg. Kingswood were definitely causing the visitors some problems and in the 37th minute Ryan Mudd saw his header just fly wide of the upright. Frank Hitchings could not believe he had not scored in the 44th minute as his goal-bound shot was saved by the legs of keeper Borg.

Frampton almost pulled a goal back in the 59th minute as a fierce shot from Karl Palmer caught home keeper Dan Blackwell by surprise as the ball skidded of his arm and just wide of the far post. A good move down the right from Kingswood’s Ryan Mudd sending Clark free to cross to the unmarked Gavin Dibden who pulled his shot well wide of the goal. Borg saved the day again for the visitors as he blocked Frank Hitchings goal-bound shot. Then in the 68th minute Paul Eldridge struck the crossbar with a tremendous drive from the edge of the box. At the other end Stuart Rae made a great tackle to deny Frampton from pulling a goal back. In the 74th minute Kingswood got a second goal that they deserved, Gavin Dibden’s shot was parried by Borg but it fell nicely for Ryan Mudd to drive home. The home side wrapped the points up in the 80th minute when Simon Clark was put clear on goal to smash the ball past Borg.

25th August 2012 - Rockleaze smash five past Yate

Southmead CS Athletic remain top of the table after their 4-0 home win over basement Club Chipping Sodbury Town and Henbury swap places with Tuffley Rovers and move into second place after beating them 3-2.

Southmead made sure of top spot with a comfortable 4-0 home win over Chipping Sodbury Town. The home side opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Rob Sivers latched onto a through ball to drive the ball past the visitor’s keeper. It was Sivers again on 30 minutes this time making no mistake from a Danny Warren cross. In the 50th minute Southmead worked a short corner from the right and Bobby Massey drove the ball home. The home side made it 4-0 in the 65th minute from a poor clearance from the Sodbury defense that fell nicely for Luke Coghlan to drive home from 25 yards.

Rockleaze Rangers v Yate Town Reserves

Rockleaze Rangers first home game of the season against Yate Town Reserves got them their first three points. After suffering defeats in their first two games this came as a big relief to them. The star man was Matt Beadle who was involved in the first goal and netted a hat-trick himself. The home side dominated the first 45 minutes with Yate unable to muster a shot on goal. The home side took the lead in the 7th minute when James Cinicola headed home a superb cross from Matt Beadle. They went two up after 13 minutes with a rather fortuitous goal. A Yate defender passed the ball back to his keeper Damien Freeman and Carl Lakey closed the keeper down and as he struck the ball it cannoned of Lakey into the Yate net. Rockleaze got a third in the 36th minute, a well taken goal by Matt Beadle turning on the edge of the box to drive the ball past Freeman. The credit for the chance must go to Savas Frangoullis who broke down the right and sent in a great cross to Beadle.

Yate showed more promise in the second half and had much more possession and playing some good football. They had a great chance to pull a goal back in the 54th minute as Scott Cousins found himself unmarked in the box but proceeded to strike the ball well over the crossbar. Yate created another good chance a couple of minutes later from a break down the left by Ryan Nicholls as he got behind the home defense, but a poor cross was easily collected by home keeper Sam Burgess. Jack Parker created space for Nicholls to score but his shot was parried by Burgess and Aaron Day cleared the loose ball away for a corner. The visitors were creating the chances but Burgess was not going to let the ball past as he again bought of a good save to deny Scott Cousins. Jack Parker was next on target for Yate but Burgess was there again. With the visitors pushing forward more and more there was always a chance of a break away from the home side and in the 73rd minute a break down the right and a cross in by Carl Lakey was turned in by Matt Beadle. Then right on time Beadle netted number five and completed his hattrick.

A cracking match at Henbury, who took on second place Tuffley Rovers. The home side found themselves trailing 2-0 after 13 minutes after Shane Bradley headed home Warren Mann’s cross on 4 minutes and then scored again in the 13th minute when a Henbury defender slipped and allowed Bradley through clear on goal to net. 2 minutes later the home side hauled a goal back when Adam Rosser was brought down in the box and Eddie Howell netted from the spot. Henbury were level on 25 minutes when Aaron Anglin latched onto a long ball out of defense and neatly chipped the keeper. The home side then took the lead in the 31st minute as Carlos Hart chase what looked like a lost cause ball down the right beat the defender and sent over a low cross to the far post where Ben Sandle coolly knock the ball home.

Taverners went behind after 4 minutes to Hanham Athletic, as James Shipman gave them the lead. It did not last long however as Dan Lee put the home side on level terms two minute later. Matt Spring should have given the home side the lead in the 21st minute but saw his attempt on goal well saved by the visitor’s keeper. Hanham regained the lead in the 80th minute through Jack Baber, but Taverners hit back in the 82nd minute when Matt Spring headed home Jamie Bish’s cross.

Frampton United were well and truly beaten at home by Thornbury Town 4-0. After winning 4-0 in the Cup during the week they would have been confident in getting a good result today. It was not the case as goals from Nathan Irwin a double strike from Steve Alexander and a final goal from Steve Thompson gave Thornbury their first points of the season.

Berkeley Town seem to be suffering from the blues at the moment as the game at home to Ellwood was abandoned after 23 minute with the score-line at 0-0. The heavens opened up and flooded the pitch. Last Saturday’s game had to be called off because of heavy overnight rain.

The Longlevens v Patchway fixture was postponed because of the situation from last Tuesday’s Cup match in which Mark Moore from Longlevens suffered a Cardiac Arrest. All the signs at the moment that Mark will make a good recovery.

18th August 2012 - Frampton grab first win of season

Southmead CS Athletic are held to a 1-1 draw at home to Tuffley Rovers but remain top of the table. Tuffley Rovers move into second spot as both Patchway Town and Henbury lose.

A crowd of 148 spectators turned out to watch the game at Southmead where Tuffley Rovers were the visitors. It was a close game with Rovers taking the lead in the 15th minute Leone Cornwall stabbing the ball home after a goalmouth scramble. The home side leveled on the half hour when Rob Sivers latched on to a great through ball rounded the last Rovers defender before coolly driving the ball past the visitor’s keeper. There was no further score but Southmead did strike the crossbar on two occasions during the second half.

The game at the Ridings the home of Chipping Sodbury Town was a close fought affair. At the start of the day neither Chipping Sodbury nor Frampton United had gained any points from their first two outings of the season. Both teams had conceded numerous goals. If one or the other could gain a win it would lift them away from the bottom of the table. At the end of the 90 minutes it was Frampton who were jumping for joy as they gained their first points in the County League going away with a 3-2 victory. Sodbury’s Danny Coombes had a great chance to open the scoring on 8 minutes when he got clear of the Frampton defense but failed to beat the visitor’s keeper as he closed the striker down, the ball spinning off the keeper for a corner. As the corner came in Alex Fox met it with considerable force but had to watch it strike the upright and spin away for a goal kick. Frampton’s Stuart Maule broke through the home defense but had the ball flicked of his toe as he lined up his shot. A couple of minutes later James Cross broke through the home defense but the Sodbury keeper Richard Guest was quick off his line to deny the chance. Adam Philp saw his shot parried by Guest and then the keeper scramble to his feet to deny James Cross’s shot from going in. After 37 minutes Frampton took the lead rather fortuitously as Guest had parried Philps shot but the ball spun off the keeper goal-wards and Guest scrambled back but was unable to keep the ball from crossing the line. Guest was in action again just before the break this time denying Cross from increasing the visitor’s lead.

Sodbury were back in the game on 57 minutes from a free kick that was crossed over the far post from the right, it was headed back across goal for Danny Coombes to squeeze home. Frampton always looked as though they might score again and were unlucky when a Adam Philp free kick struck the upright. However, they did take the lead in the 61st minute from a low corner from the right that sped across the six yard box and James Cross was at the far post to knock it in. Within a minute Sodbury drew level from a great 25 yard strike from Lewis Spedding. Frampton brought on Ryan Vincent in the 81st minute and just a couple of minutes later with only his second touch he broke clear on the right and hammered the ball across keeper Guest into the far side of the goal.

Ellwood’s home form has got them off to a good start this season with two straight wins. Last week it was Frampton United who went away empty handed and this week it was undefeated Henbury. The home side took the lead after just 5 minutes through Matt Addis and increased that lead 7 minutes later with 30 yard Dan Mason pile driver. Henbury hit back on 35 minutes through Jack Mills but were unable to find a second goal.

Bristol Academy followed up their 6-1 success in the week with a 2-1 win at Thornbury Town. The home side went ahead on 35 minutes when Jake Britton put through his own goal, but Jake Jackson scored in the 42nd minute for the Academy to put them on level terms. It was Jackson again in the 55th minute netting his second to put the visitors in front. It looked as though Thornbury might just sneak a point in time added at the end of the game when Pete Fowler’s header looked goal-bound all the way until the Academy keeper brought off a magnificent save.

Kingswood pulled of a surprise result at Patchway Town with an excellent 1-0 win. That is two wins out of two for the visitor’s and all the more rewarding as Patchway were previously undefeated in 3 games and had not conceded a goal. The winning goal came in the 4th minute a Frank Hitching’s shot clipping the inside of the post on its way in. Unfortunately both sides went down to ten men on the hour mark as Patchway had Matt Tovey dismissed and Kingswood’s Leonard Miller was dismissed.

Bishops Cleeve Reserves suffered their first defeat of the season by a young and vibrant Yate Town Reserves. Yate opened the scoring in the 27th minute from a Jay Belton strike and held on to that lead until the 54th minute when Cleeves Mike Sholley leveled. The winner came in the 62nd minute from Yate’s Ashley Hawkins. Ben Maguire was unlucky not to level for the home side in the 65th minute the visitor’s keeper Freeman pulling off a great save from a free kick.

Hanham Athletic picked up their second win of the week with a 2-1 victory over D.R.G. Frenchay. Both the home sides’ goals came from Adam Grinter and both from scrambles in the box. The first goal came after 20 minutes and the second 15 minutes later. D.R.G did pull a goal back in the 76th minute again a goalmouth scramble converted by Fabian McCarthy

Kings Stanley kick off their season with a 3-1 win at Taverners. It was the home side who took the lead after 17 minutes Josh Blunt turning in Tom Hanley’s corner. Sam Prior leveled for the visitors on 25 minutes driving home at the far post. Fran King gave Stanley the lead in the 54th minute when he followed up a shot that had been parried by the home keeper. In the 72nd minute an almost identical goal to the second as the home keeper parried the initial shot only to see Liam Gale follow up and net number three for the visitors.

Our first postponement of the season came at Berkeley Town who found their pitch waterlogged after heavy overnight rain. Rockleaze Rangers were their opponents.

Whilst Southmead CS Athletic got off to a winning start at Berkeley Town, Frampton United lost heavily at Ellwood.

Southmead CS Athletics visit to Berkeley Town for their first ever game in the David Wilson Homes Gloucestershire County League saw the visitors take home the three points with a 3-2 victory.

Southmead showed early promise when Matt Sykes struck the crossbar after just six minutes, but just a minute later they were clearing a shot off their own goal line. Berkeley’s Sam Strickland had the ball nudged off his toe as he lined up a shot after breaking into the box. Minutes later the visitor’s keeper Sebastian Gribble’s poor clearance almost gave Berkeley the opportunity to take the lead. In the 17th minute Berkeley keeper Lee Mason brought off a great save to deny rob Sivers giving the visitors the lead. In the 32nd minute Sam Strickland should have given Berkeley the lead but his shot on target was well saved by Grbble pushing it away for a corner. The home side took the lead 2 minutes before the break when Tom Palmer broke down the left sent over a brilliant low cross and Paul Brooks was on hand at the far post to knock the ball past Gribble. The lead only lasted two minutes as a great ball from Luke Bayford split the Berkeley defense and Rob Sivers coolly slotted the ball past the advancing Mason.

Early in the second half the home side had a couple of good chances to take the lead both coming from James Mackie crosses into the box that Paul Brooks was just unable to reach. Southmead took the lead in the 56th minute rather fortunately as the Berkeley keeper Lee Mason misjudged the flight of the ball from Dan Warren’ cross and the ball drifted over the top of the keeper in to the far corner of the net. Just 8 minutes later the home side leveled from a Sam Strickland cross to the far post and Paul Brooks was on hand to head home his second of the afternoon. Southmead grabbed the winner in the 82nd minute after a dreadful mistake by Berkeley’s defense was capitalized on by Rob Sivers who sent over a great cross for Dwayne Pope to drive the ball past Mason.

Ellwood go top of the table with a resounding 5-0 win over newcomers Frampton United Lee Scotford opened the scoring for the home side on 15 minutes, than Dan Mason made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after 30 minutes. It was Mason again on 40 minutes another penalty that was saved by the visitor’s keeper but Mason scored as he followed up the rebound. Matt Addis made it 4-0 in the 58th minute and brother Jamie Addis netted number five in the 65th minute. Frampton then missed a penalty 10 minutes from the end.

Patchway got off to a flying start at Chipping Sodbury Town coming away with a 3-0 victory. Jordan Yeo opened the scoring for the visitors after 5 minutes and 5 minutes later they went 2-0 up from a Mark Palmer strike. Ben Purdy’s 20 yard shot found the back of the net after 50 minutes to give Patchway Town the 3 points.

Opening game of 2012/13 ended in disappointment and pointless for Hanham who dominated the game and a crowd of 75 saw the only goal of the game scored in 44th minute by Bishop Cleeve’s Stuart Midwinter from close range a tap inside the six yard box. Hanham pressed throughout however failed to capitalise on posession and paid the price for not finishing their chances.

Henbury started their campaign with a 3-1 win at home to Rockleaze Rangers. The home side took the lead on the half hour after a poor clearance from the Rockleaze defence was picked up by Eddie Howell and he squared the ball across goal for adam Rosser to drive home. Rockleaze levelled right on half time a clearance from their defence following a Henbury corner down the left was crossed into the box for Shane Budding to fire into the Henbury net. Henbury regained the lead in the 60th minute from a free kick from Adam Rosser that was headed home by Aaron Anglin. Some good inter changing of passes by Adam Rosser and Jack Mills with Rosser finding Aaron Anglin to volley home his second of the afternoon.

Tuffley Rovers got off to a great start with a 4-2 victory at Bristol Academy. Rovers opened the scoring on 12 minutes when the home defence lost possession, the ball was fed out to Warren Mann on the left wing and his cross into the box was neatly turned in by Mark Ford It was the only goal of the first 45 minutes but five more were to come in the second half. In the 75th minute a Charles Novoth shot was deflected onto the crossbar and Reece Purnell followed up to score. 2 minutes later Rovers were back in front this time it was Warren Mann getting on the score sheet. Rovers went further ahead in the 79th minute with a well taken goal from Shane Bradley. The academy then pulled it back to 3-2 with a Jake Jackson strike, but a 20 yard volley in the 89th minute from Mark Wallington sealed the points for Tuffley Rovers.

Kingswood got off to a good start with a 1-0 win over Taverners. The home side created several good chances early on and the home keeper Chris Fox was at his best to deny Taverners grabbing the lead. Longlevens and D.R.G. Frenchay had to settle for a point each at Gloucester. No goals in the first 45 minutes but a coup[le of great chances missed by Longleven’s Bradley Martin. The home side took the lead with Dave Merrick netting a rebound of the post from a Brad Martin shot.
