29th October 2016 - Bristol Telephones overpower Hanham Athletic

Patchway Town take away Stonehouse Town’s unbeaten record. Bristol Telephones thrash Hanham Athletic. At the bottom all three teams fail again.

Hanham Athletic simply had no answer to Bristol Telephones. The visitors controlled the game from start to finish and were much more physical and direct right from the start. Phones almost took the lead on 45 seconds from a Dhani Golding cross that sped across the six yard box but both Ryan Webber and Kyran Hunt missed it. Then they had a goal disallowed on 3 minutes. The goal spree started on 8 minutes from a Billy Downes free kick from the left that found Mike Alvis to head home. Hanham had a half chance on 12 minutes again from a free kick floated into the box that Jack Fry volleyed wide. On 19 minutes Dhani Golding netted the first of his three goals when the ball was played into him and he drove forward before he drilled the ball home from the edge of the box. The home side had to make a goalkeeping change on 22 minutes because Max Heavan had picked up a knock and his replacement was Stan Hill. Hanham had their second attempt on goal on 25 minutes but Jamie Fry who was clear on goal failed to chip the ball over keeper Will Osborne. The visitors made it 3-0 on 33 minutes after Kyran Hunt was pulled down in the box and Ryan Webber scored from the spot kick. On 38 minutes it was 4-0 to the visitors as Dhani Golding received the ball on the edge of the box made space for a shot and drilled it past Hill. From the kick off the home side almost scored when Charlie Bateman’s header was just wide from a Jack Fry cross. Within a minute Phones went 5-0 up from a neat back heel by Dhani Golding finished off by Kyran Hunt.

Left full back Sam Sarre then got in on the act when he received a long ball from the right and coolly slotted the ball past Hill. Ryan Webber then missed the best chance of the game when he lifted the ball over from 2 yards. The visitors scored again on 59 minutes when Hanham failed to clear and Kyran Hunt fired the ball home. Golding completed his hattrick on 69 minutes from a three man move that set him up to score from just inside the box. A rare lapse in defence gave the home side the opportunity to score a consolation goal which came from a free kick that was head away but straight to Matt Vicary to drive a low shot into the net. Telephones wrapped the scoring up just 2 minutes from the end when Mike Alvis drove a crisp shot past Hill.

Stonehouse Town lost their unbeaten record today when they went down 3-0 at home to Patchway Town. The home side had an early chance as did the visitors who opened the scoring on 33 minutes from a corner that was headed backwards by Matt Tovey and Brandon Benjamin did the rest. A free kick just before the break allowed Ashley Hawkins to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Just after the break Danny Carmen missed a good chance for the home side and Alex Kibble struck the upright on 56 minutes. A third goal fro Patchway on 67 minutes sealed the points when Benjamin was brought down in the box and Matt Tovey scored from the penalty spot.

Thornbury Town have closed the gap to four points at the top and have a game in hand over the leaders Stonehouse Town after their 4-2 win at home to AEK Boco. The home side went ahead on 5 minutes when Luke Franklin turned in Tom Webb’s superb cross. on 25 minutes Craig Lancastle’s shot was well saved by the visitor’s keeper but the ball went straight to Marcus Wormwell who simply passed the ball back to Lancastle to drive home. Boco hit back on43 minutes after Town’s defence allowed Jack Green to dribble past to defenders around the keeper to score. The home side retook the lead on 55 minutes when Boco gave away a penalty from a handball and Tom Webb made no mistake from the spot. The visitors reduced the arrears on 82 minutes when Liam Jenkins drove a low shot in to the corner. On 88 minutes Thornbury sealed the points from a good move between Danny Thompson and Craig Lancastle with Thompson’s shot being saved by the Boco keeper but Lancastle drove home the rebound.

Cheltenham Civil Service keep up their challenge with a 3-0 win over today’s visitors Rockleaze Rangers. On 22 minutes Leigh Rayson rose to a corner and headed back across goal into the far corner to open the scoring. On 25 minutes Rockleaze went close with a header from a corner. Both sides had chances before the break but failed to convert then on 42 minutes Tim Griffiths fumbled the ball and Rockleaze had a chance but fail to capitalise shooting over. in the 47th minute Jack Sklenar's cute pull back after beating the offside trap, was coolly slotted home by Dan Keating. Some great skill by Sklenar beat two men but the keeper got a hand to the ball as he tries to go round him. On 72 minutes some quick interchange of passes before the ball reaches Adam Loveridge who controls it and fires in the corner.

Broadwell Amateurs continue their winning run with a 3-1 win over Gala Wilton. The home side were in front after just 2 minutes with a goal from Greg Lewis. Then just 2 minutes before the break Jordi Sheen jinked past a couple of defenders to make it 2-0. Gala reduced that lead on 60 minutes when Kyle Bakewall netted from the penalty spot. Then 2 minutes later Sheen showed his skill again beating several defenders before scoring a third to seal the points.

Bishops Cleeve Reserves have hit a bad patch as they lose again this time to today’s visitors Little Stoke. For the first time this season Little Stoke found the back of the net on three occasions. Luke Sperring gave them the lead on 5 minutes but the home side levelled on 35 minutes with a goal from Matt Magee. Owen Greening put Stoke ahead in a one on one situation in the 47th minute and with just 2 minutes to go Matt Simons made it 3-1.

Southmead CS Athletic are still looking for that elusive first win as they went down 2-0 at home to Frampton United. The visitors took an early lead when they broke away and scored through Jack Bartman. The Frampton keeper than made a great save to deny Santiago Serna and Rob Sivers had his header well saved by the keeper. Henbury have fought their way in to the semi-final of the League Cuo with an excellent 4-2 win at Kingswood. The visitors found themselves trailing 2-0 after 11 minutes. Simon Clark gave Kingswood the lead on 8 minutes with a superb lob over the keeper from inside his own half. Then just 3 minutes later Clark netted a second this time from a free kick. Henbury had to wait until the hour mark before they pulled a goal back and it came courtesy of a corner which the home side failed to clear and Jack Mills rifled the ball home. On 71 minutes Henbury drew level and it came from the penalty spot after Adrian Howarth had fouled Aaron Anglin in the box and Scott Thomas scored the penalty. Then came two goals from Aaron Anglin the first on 80 minutes when he was put clear on goal and again in the 89th minute with a similar situation.

Lebeq United’s second visit to Hardwicke in two weeks the first a GFA Cup match and this time the leagues Les James League Cup. They made up for their defeat two weeks ago with a 5-3 victory to reach the Semi-final. Unfortunately the report I received was not very good. Lebeq United goalscorers were Two for Nouradine Bounouh – Two for Clinton Wilson and One for Will De Wet – For Harwicke Adam Mace - Tobie Webb and Ed Rimmer.

22nd October 2016 - Rockleaze and Henbury share points

Stonehouse Town lead the table by seven points after another success at Gala Wilton. Thornbury Town move into second with a win at Hanham Athletic.

The three teams at the bottom all lost with Southmead CS Athletic still rooted to the bottom.

The local derby at Rockleaze Rangers where Henbury were the visitors today never really pulled up any trees. Both teams were awarded penalties in the fist half and both teams missed the opportunity to take the lead. The first penalty after 14 minutes went the way of the home side but new goal keeper for Henbury Daniel Jesionowski pulled of a great save to deny Rob Wilks. 6 minutes later Aaron Anglin was brought down in the box giving Henbury the chance to go ahead but Rangers keeper Sam Burgess was having non of that and saved brilliantly to deny Jack Mills netting from the spot.

In the second half Henbuy’s Reece Purnell got his shot from the edge of the box on target but not good enough to beat Burgess. Caelan Simpson’s shot from the edge of the box was well saved by Burgess and at the other end Marcus Williams went close for Rangers. Richard Bray had a stinging shot pushed away for a corner by the visitor’s keeper on 61 minutes. Henbury broke the deadlock on 64 minutes from a long free kick floated into the box by Max Matthews and Jack Bebbington rose above the home defence to head home. With time running out the home side snatched an equaliser on 85 minutes from a break down the Henbury left by Luke Corrish and a superb ball across the six yard box where Steve Fitzpatrick was waiting to volley the ball home.

Eight goals at Bristol Telephones with the home side winning 5-3 against Patchway Town. It was the visitors who took the lead on 25 minutes with a goal from Matt Davies and a few minutes later the same player had the ball in the net again but it was ruled out. Patchway made it hard for themselves on 35 minutes when Liam Planter was shown a red card after picking up a second yellow. Even with ten men Town held the score to 1-0 until the 50th minute when Dhani Golding scored from a 25 yard free kick to level the score. Martin Blacker gave the home side the lead on 55 minutes when he volleyed home after Dhani Golding’s shot rebounded of the Town keeper. On 62 minutes Golding was upended in the box but Ben Griffiths missed from the penalty spot. A rather fortunate goal on 70 minutes for the home side with Patchways Brandon Benjamin putting the ball in his own net whilst trying to clear. Golding netted his second on 80 minutes latching on to a rebound of the keeper from a Mike Alvis shot. Five minutes later it was the same combination again with Alvis’s shot parried by the Town keeper only for Golding to slot home. Patchway then scored two late goals Dan Bendall netted from the edge of the box on 88 minutes And Brandon Benjamin made up for his early mistake by netting a third for Patchway right on time.

Hardwicke ran riot at home to Southmead CS Athletic romping home 7-0. The visitors opened the better and were well in command for the first twenty minutes of the first half but failed to take there many chances. But this turned out to be the Ed Rimmer show after he netted four and assisted in one more. Rimmer opened the scoring on 27 minutes and a minute later Rimmer set up Harris but he was just wide. Right on half time Ed Rimmer headed Paul Carters cross home to make it 2-0 at the break. In the 68th minute Rimmer sent Steve Bick clear to make it 3-0. Two minutes later it was four when Paul Carters shot was saved by the visitor’s keeper but it fell to Mark Carter to slide the ball home. With 10 minutes to go Paul Carter sent Rimmer clear to complete his hattrick. By this time it was how many more and Rimmer duly obliged when he broke clear again on 85 minutes to score and with 3 minutes left Steve Bick grabbed his second after good work by Tobie Webb.

Little Stoke picked up three more points with a slender 1-0 win against today’s visitors Kingswood. The home side created several good chances in the first half with James Laver setting up, Russ Church but he failed to beat the visitors keeper. Simon Knight also went close for the home side. at the other end keeper Luke Langston saved well to keep his side in the game. The game was heading for that familiar score line of 0-0 until the 70th minute when a corner for the home side was spilled by the Kingswood keeper and Tim O’Loughlin was on hand to drive the ball home.

Gala Wilton are still struggling and went down at home to league leaders Stonehouse Town. It was the home side who went ahead on 15 minutes when Kyle Bakewell stole the ball of the Stonehouse defender and forged forward to score. They were 2-0 up after 25 minutes after Rory Wilkinson played a one two before letting fly from the edge of the box. The leaders got a goal back from a header from Adam Ireland and Liam Gale levelled the score right on half time. Jordan Fletcher put the visitors in front on 80 minutes and then right at the end Liam Gale broke away to make the final score 4-2 to Stonehouse.

Cheltenham Civil Service went ahead on 4 minutes with a strike from Joe McCauley but within 4 minutes Lebeq United drew level with a goal from Dominic Holver. McCauley put the home side back in front on 35 minutes only for the visitors to hit back with a second from Holver. Cheltenham’s keeper Tim Griffiths saved a penalty in the second half taken by Holver which kept the score at 2-2 but denied Holver his hattrick.

Broadwell Amateurs have found a good streak of form over the last two weeks and after their win at Bishops Cleeve Res last week continued in that vein with another 3-1 win at Frampton United. The visitors took an early lead with a goal from Kristian Burnard after 4 minutes. Frampton’s first effort came on 15 minutes but Lewis just failed to get to a superb cross into the box. Burnard made it 2-0 to the visitors when he was allowed a free header. Frampton went down to ten men on 36 minutes when Frazer Wilson was sent off for a professional foul. Frampton pulled a goal back on 68 minutes when Kris Bulley played in Jonathan Lewis but Broadwell sealed the points in the 74th minute when Jordan Sheen lobbed the keeper.

Thornbury Town move into second place with a 1-0 win at Hanham Athletic. A game of few chances with the best chance for the home side falling to Adam Grinter in the 1st minute of the game. He was inside the six yard box but shot straight at the Thornbury keeper. Nathan Irwin won the game for Thornbury in the 80th minute.

AEK Boco are through to the semi-final of the Les James League Cup with a resounding 6-1 win over Bishops Cleeve Reserves. The star man for the home side was jack Green with a well taken hattrick. He opened his account on 8 minutes knocking in a Charlie Stevens cross. Bishops Cleeve levelled the score on 26 minutes with Ben Maguire netting from the penalty spot. Liam Powell made it two on 41 minutes from inside the box. Charlie Stevens netted number three from the penalty spot on 44 minutes and Jack Green got his second with a superb finish in time added at the end of the first half. 4 minutes into the second half Lee Bebbington made it 5-1 and Jack Green completed his hattrick in the 87th minute.

15th October 2016 - Broadwell take points at Bishops Cleeve

Just one league fixture completed today with most of the Clubs performing in the GFA Challenge Trophy. The game in the north of the county between Bishops Cleeve Reserves and Broadwell Amateurs was an interesting encounter with Cleeve going into the match with a very good win last week and the visitors on a bad run of results from their last couple of games. Broadwell got off to a flying start after 3 minutes when Cleeve full-back Luke Finch hit a horrendous ball back to his keeper Steve Benbow it bounced so high that the keeper had to handle it or it would have gone over his head and into the net. The referee immediately blew for a free kick to the visitor’s which was in the home box about 14 yards out. Kristian Burnards shot must have taken a deflection and finished up in the back of the home net. Broadwell almost made it two on 7 minutes when a mistake by Mike Davis allowed Ross Gabriel to run clear but his shot was brilliantly saved by Steve Benbow. Benbow was in action again 3 minutes later when he deflected a Danny Latham shot onto the post. The home side had a good chance to pull a goal back on 13 minutes when Jamie Hammond found himself clear on goal but keeper Jamie Merry foiled his attempt. On 25 minutes Merry brought off a good save to deny Mike Davis with 25 yard drive. A lee Hanson cross found Jordi Sheen but his header was well saved by Benbow. Broadwell defender Greg Lewis had to make a rash clearance that just cleared his own crossbar in the 34th minute. The visitors went 2-0 up on 38 minutes when Cleeve lost possession on their left side and the ball was played through to Ross Gabriel who smashed the ball into the top corner. The home side got themselves back in the game right on half time when Mike Davis curled a superb free kick from the edge of the box around the wall and past Merry.

In the very 1st minute of the second half Broadwell restored their two goal cushion. A free kick on the left just outside the box was firmly struck by Lee Hanson across the Cleeve six yard box and central defender Greg Lewis had the simple task of side footing the ball home. In the 51st minute a 25 yard effort from Jack Oldham went just wide of the visitor’s goal with Merry stranded. The home side were unlucky in the 66th minute when a header back to merry fell short and Paul Holmes got a touch on the ball but it rolled agonisingly wide of the post. Benbow brought off a good save diving full length to deny Jordi Sheens header going in. Broadwell had a great chance to make it 4-1 on 87 minutes when Ben Fishwick was clear on goal but failed to beat Benbow. The last effort of the game in time added at the end of 90 minutes fell to the home side Elliot Pulley made a great run into the box and then saw merry dive full length to push his shot out for a corner.

GFA Challenge Trophy Reports

Two Clubs are through to the next round after defeating opposition from a higher league. Bristol Telephones saw of Hallen from the Toolstation League Premier Division whilst Kingswood defeated Tuffley Rovers from the Hellenic League Premier Division.

In a very one sided game, Telephones had a great start and after 8 minutes took the lead with a header from Dhani Golding after some good individual work from Ben Griffiths down the left side. Ben Griffiths should have extended the lead on 15 minutes, again after some neat foot work, he cut inside, only to shoot just wide of the upright. On 19 minutes Ben Griffiths challenged the Hallen defence and was brought down for a penalty. Hanin Rondhane took the spot kick and netted to make it 2-0. On 30 minutes Ben Griffiths inflicting more punishment on the Hallen defence crossing the ball to Mike Alvis who squared it to Dhani Golding to finish with a left foot shot into the corner. The second half started much the same as the first although Hallen did manage a few more chances, but Telephones defence were stubborn, and didn't allow them to break through. With the game heading towards the final 15 minutes, Hanin Rondhane ran at the Hallen defence and slid the ball to Mike Alvis who drilled the ball into the bottom right corner. The home side had a goal disallowed in the 54th minute but in the 83minute Frampton grabbed the winner when the ball was played into the home box and central defender Dan Dunt was unable to prevent a deflection going into his own net. Minutes later Garbacz hit the upright but Town are out of the Cup for another year.

Kingswood can hold their heads high tonight with a win on penalties over Tuffley Rovers after the final score finished 3-3 after 90 minutes. Mark Pritchett gave Tuffley the lead with a header on 7 minutes but 5 minutes later Gary Simmons levelled from a breakaway. Kingswood took the lead on 42 minutes when Ryan Mudd headed home a Josh Stokes corner. Luke Chappell cleared off the line on 53 minutes and then in the 62nd minute Tuffley Rovers were reduced to ten men when Shane Bradley received a red card for a foul on keeper Chris Fox. Tufley levelled on 73 minute with a scrambled goal from Warren Mann and then Pritchett headed the visitors into the lead on 82minutes. The home side pulled level right on time from a low cross driven across the six yard box by Adam Eldridge and Tuffley defender Tunnicliffe deflected the ball into his own net. In the penalty shoot out home keeper Chris Fox brought off two great saves and Kingswood won 3-0 on penalties.

Rockleaze Rangers were over come by an inform Cadbury Heath side from the Toolstation League premier division by five goals to two. Matt Huxley hit a hattrick and Sam McElroy netted a brace for the visitors with Steve Fitzpatrick netting a brace for the home side. The home side were 2-0 down after 10 minutes. On 3 minutes Sam McElroy shot from the edge of the box was mishandled by the home keeper letting the ball through his hands. Matt Huxley then made scored when he stabbed the ball home. 8th October 2016 - Nine man Hardwicke come back to take point against Stonehouse

Stonehouse Town increase their lead at the top but are held to a draw at Hardwicke.

Cheltenham Civil Service move into second spot with a win over Broadwell Amateurs.

All three teams at the bottom failed to gain any points and remain in the same positions.

Hardwicke who reduced to nine men late in the game came from behind to gain a deserved point from this local derby.

Hardwicke were the better side in the first half and after 4 minutes they showed their intentions when Danny Rasdale broke into the box on the left fired the ball across goal but Tobie Webb was unable to get on the end of it at the far post. A minute later with play at the other end a Lee Keveren header was pushed around the post by the Hardwicke keeper Kenny Edward. On 25 minutes a long ball over the visitors defence from Rob Hine found Will Matthews but under pressure he pulled his shot wide. Stonehouse hit straight back with a great run down the flank from Liam Gale cutting into the box almost on the bye-line his shot was well saved by Edward. A corner on the left for Hardwicke was met by Steve Bick but he was unable to get it on target. A great move by Adam Ireland and Tim Williams down the Hardwicke left resulted in Williams getting his shot on target but was unable to get it past Edward.

Stonehouse took the early initiative at the start of the second half and with just 40 seconds on the watch Liam Gale’s free kick from the right was met by the head of Andy Maryon but it was just wide of the target. Jonnie Brodie should have given the visitors the lead a minute into the half but blasted over from six yards. At the other end a break down the left by full-back Pat Vernall set up Will Matthews but his effort went well wide. The opening goal came from a silly mistake by Glen Gittins giving a way a needless penalty when he shoved Liam Gale in the box. Gale took the spot kick and duly dispatched it into the Hardwicke net for the lead. Things were not going for the home side and in the 84th minute Gittings was red carded for a bad tackle. With a minute left the home side got the ball in the visitors net but it was ruled out for pushing. A minute later Hardwicke were down to nine men when Jamie Reid received a red card after picking up a second yellow card. With the chips right down for the home side they salvaged a point in time added at the end of ninety minutes with a great strike from Tobie Webb.

Thornbury Town who were in second place at the start of the day slipped up at home to Bishops Cleeve Reserves going down 2-1. Cleeve went ahead on 25 minutes when Paul Ireland squeezed the ball home. A 25 yard thunderbolt from Marcus Wormwell on 32 minutes got Thornbury back on level terms. Although the home side had plenty of the play, some excellent saves from the visitors keeper kept the home side at bay. Then in the 80th minute the unexpected happened when Cleeves Ben Maguire netted the winner.

Another defeat for Hanham Athletic this time at the hands of today’s visitors Kingswood. Josh Stokes gave Kingswood the lead on 18 minutes with a 20 yard free kick. Two minutes into the second half Jamie Evans hit a half volley home to make it 2-0. A defensive mistake by the home side on 59 minutes gave Ryan Mudd the chance to make it three. The best chance for the home side fell to Adam Grinter on 64 minutes but his header hit the crossbar.

Bristol Telephones were the big scorers of the day with 6-1 over Gala Wilton. It was only 1-0 at the break after Hanin Rhomdane had given the home side the lead on 36 minute with a shot from the edge of the box. On 61 minutes Dhani Golding netted the first of his three goals for the afternoon when Griffiths sent the ball to Mike Alvis who then crossed for Golding to finish off. The second of the afternoon for Hanin Romdhane was a brilliant piece of individual skill drifting past several defenders and rounding the keeper to tap into an empty net. Gala hit back when Alex Pritchard scored from a corner to make it 3-1. Mike Alvis out paced the visitors defence to net number four for Phones and then two late goals from Dhani Golding the first a shot from the edge of the box and the second a close range effort.

AEK picked up a good 3-1 home win over Henbury. Darren Werrett gave Boco the lead on 30 minutes then three minutes later Charlie Stevens netted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0. Stevens scored again on 50 minutes capitalising on a mistake by the Henbury keeper who dropped the ball from a cross. With just five minutes left Henbury’s Danny Simpson pulled a goal back.

The first meeting between the two Clubs Little Stoke and Lebeq United who were promoted from The Bristol Suburban League last season. The spoils went to the visitors Lebeq United with the only goal of the game on 30 minutes a rather bizarre effort from Clinton Wilson who was chasing a through ball which was met by the home keeper and his attempted clearance rebounded off of Wilson into the net. Little Stoke had been guilty of a few missed chance from Owen Greening on five and twenty five minutes but Lebeq were unlucky in the 20th minute when Corey Wilson struck the upright. Visitors keeper Amin Jones brought off a good save from Laver to deny the home side an equaliser on 47 minutes and Luke Sperring skied the ball well over on 70 minutes that could have levelled the score.

Rockleaze Rangers gained a 2-0 victory over bottom Club Southmead CS Athletic although there was little to talk about in the first half except for a missed chance from Kris Reuben after Pilling and Fitzpatrick had set the chance up. Rangers took the lead on 65 minutes with a corking 35 yard free kick from James Pilling. The second goal in the last minute of the game came from Marcus Williams who picked the ball up just inside the visitors half surged forward beating several defenders then rounding the keeper to score.

Frampton United’s home game with Patchway Town ended with a win for the home side but it was the visitors who went into the break with a 1-0 lead after Brandon Benjamin drilled the ball home on 44 minutes. Myron Turner levelled for the home side on 49 minutes when he skipped around the Patchway keeper. Frampton netted the winner on 64 minutes after Steve Jackson was upended in the box and Myron Turner made it 2-1 from the spot.

Cheltenham Civil Service bounced back from the defeat last week with a 3-0 win at home to Broadwell Amateurs. The home side were in front after just 24 seconds courtesy of a goal from Adam Loveridge. Broadwell thought they had levelled but Gabriel’s effort was disallowed. 1st October 2016 - Lebeq United fight back to beat AEK

Two games at the top of the table with Stonehouse Town entertaining second place Cheltenham Civil Service and Kingswood taking on Thornbury Town. Both Stonehouse and Thornbury Town running out winners on the day.

At the bottom Southmead failed to increase their points tally going down at home to Little Stoke and Gala Wilton were pipped at home to Frampton United.

A really thrilling and entertaining match at Oakland’s Park between Lebeq United and AEK Boco the home side coming back to win 4-3 after trailing 3-1 at the break. The visitors took the early initiative and shots from Jordan Scott and Charlie Stevens in the first 5 minutes were on target but not good enough to beat Jones in the home goal. Jones then blocked a good effort from Jordan Scott and a minute later Lebeq cleared off the line. With all the pressure applied the visitors took the lead on 12 minutes when the ball was blocked by Jones it ran out to the left side of the box and was immediately struck across goal where the unmarked Liam Crewe had plenty of time to fire the ball past Jones.
