30th September 2006 - Roman Glass move to the top of the table
A goal in the 82 minute from Luke Westwood leaves Roman Glass St George still undefeated after six games but moves them to the top of the table with a slender 1-0 win at Pucklechurch Sports.
Thornbury Town seamed to have lost the magic that saw them gain a superb victory over Patchway Town a few weeks ago, going down 3-1 at home to an on form Kings Stanley. Thornbury who had a lot of possession throughout the game took the lead in the 15th minute when Niell O’Loughlin scored from the penalty spot. They led until the 40th minute when Stanley were awarded a penalty and Mark McDerrmot made no mistake with the kick. Two further goals from Stanley’s Lee Pritchard in the 70th and 85th minute saw the visitors continue there recent run of form.
Taverners took an early lead at home to Hanham Athletic, Stuart Lawrence netting with a headed goal after 5 minutes. Hanham were on level terms when Chris Mountford picked himself up after being brought down in the box to score from the penalty spot. Matt Blythe gave the home side a 2-1 lead on 55 minutes with a 30 yard special from a free kick, but Hanham’s Simon Bryant levelled again five minutes from the end.
Henbury took a two goal lead at home to Highridge United with a double from Germaine Wright in the 16th and 37th minute and went into the break with that 2-0 lead. Highridge hit back within 5 minutes of the restart through Dean Maggs and levelled the scores on 57 minutes through Mike Jenkins, three minutes later Maggs stuck again to give United a 3-2 victory
Berkeley Town conjured up a 3-3 draw with high flyers Patchway Town. Berkeley took a surprise lead after 4 minutes when Andy Hobbs headed home and it took Patchway until the 40th minute to get on level terms when Jason Franklin scored from the penalty spot. Patchway up the tempo in the second half and took the lead through Keith William in the 65th minute and Luke Clennell made it 3-1 five minutes later. At this stage Patchway were cruising, but Berkeley had other ideas and pulled a goal back when Richard Langford scored in the 78th minute and Pete Lavis earned them a point when he headed home three minutes from time.
Sea Mills Park brought of the surprise of the day with a 3-1 win over top of the table Hardwicke. The score remained goalless until the 70th minute when Wes Archer scored for the visitors in the 70th minute, but three strikes by Lee Pritchard Jack Barnes and David Harris in the last 15 minutes gave the Millers a well deserved victory.
Yate Town Reserves hit five past visitors Axa with out reply. David Seal hit a brace with Paul Chenoweth, Ollie Clark and Chris Gent grabbing the other three.
Totterdown P.O.B. drove four past the bottom club Wotton Rovers who have only scored once in six games this season in the league. Del Cottle grabbed the first two on 20 and 40 minutes the first set up by Shaun Curtis and the second a header from a corner. Tom Kilblane went on a maizy run and slammed the ball into the roof of the net for the third in the 72nd minute and it was Curtis again who set up Shane Hobbs to grab the fourth on 81 minutes.
D.R.G. Stapleton picked up their first win of the season with a slender 1-0 win at home to Ellwood. The only goal of the game was netted by D.R.G. Stapleton’s Matthew Price after 20 minutes giving the home side there fifth point of the season.
23rd September 2006 - Highridge off to winning start at the creek
Highridge United who have been given permission by the Gloucestershire County League to play their home fixtures at Bristol Manor Farm this season, continued their good run of form with a 3-2 win over Berkeley Town. United took the lead in the 10th minute when Mike Berry exchanged passes with Mike Jenkins and the latter slotting the ball into the Berkeley net. Although United forced several corners the Berkeley defence coped very well in keeping the score to 1-0 at the break. The first minute of the second half saw Highridge move into a two goal lead when a cross from the left found Tyrone McNeely completely unmarked and he had the simple task of driving the ball home from 8 yards. Berkeley responded in the 49th minute with a long ball down the right, that was hooked into the middle by John Cain and Tim Beames ran the ball into the United net. Highridge pushed forward and restored the two goal lead in the 57th minute when Lee Hancock hammered the ball past the Berkeley keeper from 25 yards. At this point Highridge were in control and should have increased their lead with several good chances created but failed to find the back of the net again. Berkeley were not troubling the United defence but got caught out in the 78th minute when a mistake just inside their on half allowed James Firth to pick up the loose ball and run 40 yards to fire the ball into the United net.
Patchway Town moved into second place in the table with a crushing 6-0 victory over Pucklechurch Sports. It took Town 20 minutes to make the break through and this came from the penalty spot, Jason Franklin stepping up to convert the kick. Ben Purdie got the first of his two goals on 30 minutes and 4 minutes later Keith William made it 3-0. It was all one way traffic at this stage and it was no surprise when on 42 minutes Purdie grabbed his second. In the second half Pucklechurch put on a much better display, but Town made it 5-0 when Adam Searle converted a second penalty in the 78th minute. Luke Clennell rounded of the scoring for Town in the 83rd minute.
Ellwood fought back from a goal down to gain a 1-1 draw against visitors Roman Glass St George. Luke Westwood gave Saints the lead in the 55th minute, but Ellwood’s Kerry Hale equalised with 10 minutes left.
D.R.G. Stapleton took a first half lead through Sam Thomas on 25 minutes, but Thornbury Town dominated the second half and Equalised through Mark Greenland on 65 minutes. A spokesman for D.R.G. said that they felt that it was not 2 points lost but a point gained after being outplayed in the second 45 minutes.
King Stanley sent league leaders Hanham Athletic home with their tales between their legs after winning by a 4-0 margin. Sam Prior put Stanley ahead in the 20th minute with Adam Smith making it 2-0 on 35 minutes. Martin McDermott gave the home side a 3-0 lead in time added on in the first half before Mike Beckingham completed the route in the 60th minute.
Hardwicke moves to the top of the table after beating Yate Town Reserves 1-0. The first half totally dominated by Yate Town Res who used the wind favourably. They scored after half an hour through Chris Gent but the Lineman spotted an earlier offside. They should have gone in at the break with the lead but with less than 60 seconds left on the clock missed a glaring one on one. In the second half Yate had the ball in the home net within 60 seconds of the restart through Paul Metheringham but again the linesman had spotted a Yate player in an offside position. Hardwicke came more into the match and took the lead after 62mins when Paul Carter played a defence splitting pass to Eddie Rimmer who coolly slotted past Mark Winkler in the Yate Goal. Yate's response was immediate and only a good save from Jermaine Hunt in the home goal stopped Yate from equalising. Hardwicke were now up against it with wave after wave of Yate attacks but good defending from Wesley Archer & Justin Powell ensured Hardwicke picked up there 4th win of the season.
Wotton Rovers home form so far in the league is very disappointing losing yet again 2-0 this time at the hands of fellow strugglers Sea Mills Park. Moss Banderin gave the visitors the lead in the 30th minute and a second from the penalty spot scored by Richard Nelmes in the 75th minute gave the Millers their first win of the season.
Henbury put their last weeks defeat behind them and travelled the short distance to Axa for this week’s fixture. Jermaine Wright struck twice on 15 and 40 minutes to give the visitors a well deserved victory.
Taverners came unstuck at home to Tottedown P.O.B. going down 4-1. Derrick Cottle gave the visitors a 1-0 lead on 43 minutes and Shaun Curtis increased the lead in the 53rd minute with a spectacular lob from 40 yards. Sid Lawrence reduced the arrears for the home side in the 68th minute, but Tom Kilblane made it 3-1 on 77 minutes. A penalty by Shane Hobbs in the last minute of the game saw the visitors go away with a comfortable victory.
18th September 2006 - Highridge United
Highridge United have come to a ground sharing agreement with Bristol Manor Farm of The Toolstation Western League. All home games for Highridge United will therefore be played at "The Creek", directions and a map available on the Highridge United page Here
Any fixture changes that are necessary because of this will be notified after agreement has been reached with the league fixture secretary and the affected clubs
16th September 2006 - Hanham Move Top
Patchway Town bounced back from their defeat last week to win 2-1 in a very entertaining game against Yate Town Res. The first 20 minutes of this game was very even with both sides playing very good football. Patchway had an early chance to open the scoring but Winkler brought off a good save to deny Keith William. Then Purdie headed over from a corner. Patchway opened the scoring on 30 minutes when Ben Purdie drove the ball past Winkler after being put clear by Clayton Clark. Purdie should have scored again minutes later but put his header over the bar. Patchway had more of the play at this stage with the midfield trio of Webb, Palmer and Clarke running the show. The home side took a 2-0 lead on 43 minutes when a throw from the left was flicked on by Purdie and William flicked the ball past Winkler. A well deserved goal from William who’s work rate was nothing short of brilliant in the first half. The second half saw the visitors make several substitutions and this changed the pattern of the game with Yate pushing forward a lot more, but it took then until the 89th minute for Paul Lucas to fire the ball on the turn into the Patchway net.
Hanham Athletic’s third home game in as many weeks produced a 3-0 win over visitors Ellwood and send them to the top of the table. John Allen opened the scoring on 20 minutes for Hanham and they went 2-0 up from the penalty spot after Chris Mountford had been floored in the box, Mountford picking himself up to dispatch the penalty. Mountford got his second on 68 minutes and secured the points.
Henbury were trailing Taverners from a Mike Thornton goal after 15 minutes and went 2-0 down hen Stuart Lawrence struck again for the visitors on 40 minute. Henbury did get the ball in the net on 35 minutes but it was disallowed for off-side. Taverners finally got the third goal right on time through Mark Harsant
Roman Glass St George dropped their first points of the season at home to Berkeley Town who picked up a valuable point to add to the 3 they collected last week. No goals in the first 45 minutes with Chris Astley opening the scoring for Saints on 60 minutes, but Town hit back in the 85th minute through Tim Beames to gain that valuable point.
Sea Mills Park were two up after 33 minutes at home to D.R.G. Stapleton with a double from Tony Beacham in the 2nd and 33rd minute. But the visitors hit back with a double from Josh Iles both from the penalty spot in 60th and the 75th minute to give D.R.G. Stapleton their first point of the season.
Hardwicke also dropped their first points of the season with a 2-2 home draw with Axa. The visitors took the lead in the 29 the minute through Noel O’Sullivan and it stayed that way until the 72 minute when O’Sullivan increased that lead. But the home side hit back in the 74th and 81 st minute with a double strike from Eddie Rimmer to salvage a point.
Thornbury Town failed to follow up their brilliant win last week by going down 2-0 at home to Highridge United They trailed 1-0 at half time from a Dean Maggs penalty but a very disappointing game altogether from the home team saw them concede again in the 50th minute with Dean Maggs netting his second for the vistors.
Pucklechurch Sports and Wotton Rovers drew 0-0 both teams cancelling each other out. Wotton gaining their first point of the season.
Kings Stanley won through to the 1st round of the G.F.A. Challenge Trophy with a good 3-0 win over Harrow Hill from the Premier Division of the Hellenic League. On target for Stanley was Lee Prichard on 15 and 20 minutes Nick Reiger on 40 minutes.
14th September 2006 - Rules Omission
A rule change on the provison of a programme was omitted from the League Handbook. Clubs have been circulated details of the change which was agreed at the A.G.M. and also approved by the G.F.A Rules Revison Committee
9th September 2006 - Thornbury stun Patchway
Bottom club Thornbury Town gained their first points of the season with a 4-0 defeat of local rivals Patchway Town. Although the score was 0-0 at the break they should have taken the lead in the first half from the penalty spot, but Niall O’OLoughlin failed to convert. Mark Viner broke the deadlock in the 47th minute with a goalmouth scramble and Thornbury went further ahead in the 60th minute through veteran striker Lee Jasper heading home a Ross Erwin cross. Ten minutes later the same two players combined again to give Jasper his second header goal of the afternoon. Andy Brookbanks rounded off a great afternoons work for Town with a goal in the 86 minute.
The game at Kings Stanley took a turn for the worse midway through the first half when a melee between both sets of players ended with visitors Ellwood having two players dismissed and Kings Stanley three players dismissed. The game continued with the teams going in level at the break. Danny Stevens opened the scoring for Stanley on 60 minutes, but ten minutes later Gary Wildin pulled the scores level to finish 1-1.
Hanham Athletic continued their good start to the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over visitors D.R.G. Stapleton. Both goals came from free kicks in the first half from former Bristol Rovers player Simon Bryant. The first after 20 minutes and the second on the half hour.
Wotton Rovers and Highridge United remained goalless in the first 45 minutes. The second half belonged to Highridge, Mike Berry gave them the lead after 67 minutes, Craig Liddell madw it 2-0 on 78 minutes and Tom Windows netted on 86 minutes.
Hardwicke spoiled Henbury’s good start to the season with a very hard fought 2-1 win. Eddie Rimmer gave them the lead on 30 minutes with Paul Carter increasing that lead in the 66th minute. The visitors left it late the 80th minute before Eddie Howells dragged a goal back.
Berkeley Town are off the mark with a 2-1 success at home to Axa. Matt Curtis gave the home side a scare in the 20th minute when he put Axa ahead but Mark Langford levelled the scores from the penalty spot in the 40th minute. Langford grabbed the three points for Berkeley in the 80th minute hammering home from a James Firth cross.
Taverners suffered their first defeat of the season going down 2-1 at home to Roman Glass St George. The home side were a goal down after 5 minutes when Luke Westwood opened the scoring for Saints. Matt Blythe level on 67 minutes but Matthew Hudd grabbed the winner for Saints 4 minutes from the end.
Sea Mills Park although having much of the game, failed to break down the Pucklechurch Sports defence and the game finished 0-0.
A hattrick from Yate Town Reserves Paul Lucas gave then an excellent 3-1 win away to Totterdown P.O.B. Lucas gave Yate the lead on 35 minutes but Shane Hobbs squared the score five minutes later. Two further strikes from Lucas in the 50th and 70th minute saw the visitors gain their first win of the campaign.
2nd September 2006 - Axa go top
Pucklechurch Sports gained their first points of the season with a 4-2 win over Berkeley Town. Marcus Walters opened the scoring for Sports after 20 minutes with a scrambled goal. Berkeley drew level in the 44th minute when Tim Beames hit a cross come shot which was carried by the wind and it drifted into the Sports net. A minute into the second half the visitors were in the lead when Matt Billetts free kick floated into the net. Ian Savage squared the score when he found himself clear of the Berkeley defence on 51 minutes and Paul Jackson put sports into the lead in the 75th minute. Andy Grainger rounded off the scoring in the 89th minute for Sports.
Roman Glass St George took a 2-0 lead at home to Sea Mills Park with goals from Mark Booker on 25 minutes and Simon Mansfield on 27 minutes. The Millers hit back through Dave Harris on 55 minutes but could not hit the back of the Saints net again.
Patchway Town were faced with the same opponents that they played in the cup last week Ellwood. This time the visitors put up a much better show but still left with a 3-2 defeat. Marlon Francis gave Town the lead on 17 minutes but Ellwood surprised the home side with two quick goals just before the break. Byron Ranford equalised on 41 minutes and Adam Straddling gave them the lead on 45 minutes. Patchway’s Ben Lewis pulled the scores level in the 75th minute and Keith William headed the winner in the 80th minute.
Hanham Athletic took a 2-0 lead against Highridge United Chris Mountford on 30 minutes and Simon Bryant on 40 minutes, but the second half turned sour for the home side when they had two players dismissed Mark Pocock and Justin Cartlidge got their marching orders and this let Highridge into the game. Craig Liddell reduced the arrears on 75 minutes and Mike Jenkins levelled in the 83rd minute.
Wotton Rovers form took a dip when they were defeated 2-0 at home by Hardwicke. Both goals came in the second half, Eddie Rimmer on 55 minutes and Wes Archer on 65 minutes gave the visitors the 3 points.
Yate Town Reserves went down 1-0 at home to a very well organised Taverners side who defended in depth and grabbed the winner through Andy Griffiths in the 50th minute and this after Yate Town’s Paul Metheringham had his penalty saved 2 minutes earlier.
Henbury took a 2-0 lead over visitors Totterdown P.O.B. Eddie Howells gave them the lead when he drove home a cross in the 11th minute and Nathan Baird made it two in the 28th minute. Totterdown’s Gary Booth headed home in the 38th minute to reduce the arrears. Henbury should have wrapped it up in the 48th minute but a Lee Barnes penalty was well saved by the visitor’s keeper.
D.R.G Stapleton went down by the odd goal in three to visitors King Stanley. Stanley were 2-0 up at the half time break with goals from Scott Cumberlin on 10 minutes and Sam Prior on 44 minutes. A Paul Davis screamer from 25 yards in the 75th minute gave the home side a little hope, but the equalising goal never came.
Axa’s Noel O’Sullivan gave them the lead after 25 minutes against the run of play at home to Thornbury Town and a goalmouth scramble with the ball rebounding to Stuart Woodland accounted for second goal on 88 minutes to send Axa to the top of the table.
