23rd February 2013 - Henbury edge out Bishops Cleeve
Tuffley Rovers the only team in the top three playing today failed to close the gap on leaders Kings Stanley after suffering a 2-0 defeat at home to Longlevens. Kings Stanley’s game at Ellwood was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
At the bottom Berkeley Town picked up their first point in weeks with a 2-2 draw at home to Hanham Athletic.
A good entertaining game at Henbury with the home side finishing 3-2 winners over Bishops Cleeve Reserves thanks to a Ben Sandle hat-trick. Cleeve had the better of the first ten minutes and were unlucky not to score after 5 minutes when a low cross into the box was struck well by Jamie Lock only to see his goal-bound effort rebound of keeper Ashley Newman’s legs. Henbury took the lead after 12 minutes with their very first genuine attack, a long ball over the defence found Ben Sandle who beat the visitors keeper to the ball flicked it over his head and then followed up to take the ball into the net. Sandle almost grabbed a second on 25 minutes but his shot was well saved by keeper Gavin Jones and then cleared up field. In the 29th minute Cleeve’s Jamie Lock crossed for Chris Palmer to strike the ball goal-wards only to see it headed off the line. Henbury missed a great chance to score a second on 34 minutes after substitute Aaron Anglin fired high over the bar with a clear shot on goal.
Henbury V Bishops Cleeve Reserves
Six minutes into the second half Cleeve leveled the score Ben Robinson heading home at the far post from a corner curled in from the right by Jamie Lock. This spurred the visitors on and three minutes later they went into the lead George Nicholls firing home from close in. That lead last just one minute as Henbury broke into the visitors box had the ball half cleared it ran wide to Jack Mills whose low cross to the far post was slid home by Ben Sandle. In the 62nd minute it was Jack Mills and Sandle involved again this time Mills got behind the visitors defence and pulled the ball back for Sandle to drive home. Henbury were much the better side at this point of the game and continually pushed forward trying to score a fourth goal. It should have come in the 74th minute as Aaron Anglin broke into the Cleeve box and was brought down the Referee pointing to the spot. Eddie Howell was given the task from the spot but saw his low shot really well saved by Cleeve keeper Gavin Jones. Henbury continued to press forward and should have made the game safe but for some glaring missed chances from George Watts Aaron Anglin and Jack Mills. Cleeve almost snatched a point five minutes from the end but Jamie Lock’s effort went just wide.
Tuffley Rovers had the chance to take over the top spot as Kings Stanley were not playing suffered only their third defeat of the season to local rivals Longlevens. This is the fourth win on the bounce for Longlevens and has moved them well up the table. There were no goals in the first 45 minutes, with the visitors taking the lead in the 62nd minute Dave Rich given the opportunity to net from the penalty spot, although the Tuffley keeper dived the right way he failed to prevent the ball going in. A second goal for Longlevens six minutes later, this time from a corner headed home by Josh Westcarr gave the home side an uphill task to try and get back into the game. The nearest Rovers came to scoring was in the dying minutes from a Nathan King header that was brilliantly pushed around the post by the visitor’s keeper Dave Evans.
Frampton continue with their recent home form with a 3-1 win over struggling D.R.G. Frenchay. The home side went in front in the first half from the penalty spot after a long ball up field eventually found Kris Bulley who was brought down in the box. Frazer Wilson made no mistake from the spot. A further goal in the 62nd minute for the home side Ryan Vincent heading home a Tom Paterson cross gave them a 2-0 lead. The visitors hit back with a strike from Jerome Millard after a poor clearance from the home keeper. A third goal in the 80th minute for the home side Ryan Vincent capitalising on a mistake in the D.R.G. defence saw Frampton home and dry.

Berkeley Town picked up their first point since the end of October with 2-2 draw at home to Hanham Athletic. The home side were twice in the lead only to let it slip on both occasions. The first 45 minutes failed to produce a goal then Berkley opened the scoring in the 57th minute Rich Reece scoring from just inside the box following a corner. The lead lasted just six minutes as Hanham’s James Shipman headed into the top corner following a cross from the left. Luke Palmer restored the lead for the home side in the 83rd minute heading home from a corner, but within a minute the visitors were level again this time Shaun Morris scoring from the penalty spot.
Chipping Sodbury v Kingswood was a game of two halves according to the report. Kingswood had much the better of the first 45 minutes and went into the break with a two goal lead. A mistake by Paul Dempsey allowed Ryan Mudd to give Kingswood a five minute lead. The visitors were piling on the pressure and it paid off in the 20th minute when another error in the home defence allowed Gavin Dibden into score a second. What ever was said in the home dressing room at half time did the trick as Sodbury took hold of the game and Mark Hughes headed home a great cross from Alex Fox in the 58th minute. In the 78th minute Mark Totterdell set up Justin Cattle to net a second for Sodbury giving both teams a share of the spoils.

Rockleaze Rangers suffered their second home defeat on the bounce going down 4-2 to Thornbury Town. Thornbury took the lead in the 4th minute Peter Fowler sliding the ball home from a free kick that found him free in the box. Rangers almost leveled on 12 minutes but Simpsons shot from 12 yards struck the crossbar. The second goal for Thornbury was all the work of Steve Alexander who created the chance for Tom Webb to tap home from close range. Nathan Bryers good work in the 37th minute set up Kye Simpson to pull a goal back for the home side, then a few minute later Richard Bray missed a great chance to level. Thornbury went further ahead five minutes into the second half when Steve Alexander netted from close in. Valentin Pomfret gave away a penalty for Thornbury’s fourth goal, with Brad Andrews netting from the penalty spot. Rangers did get a second goal on 78 minutes a header by Aaron Day from a corner.
Taverners picked up a valuable point against Bristol Academy the final score 0-0. It was a very good game but lacked the final touches that are needed to win games.

16th February 2013 - Tuffley back in action with win
The top three teams were all in action today and all picked up maximum points. Kings Stanley hammered five past the Berkeley Town defence without reply, whilst Southmead CS Athletics first visit to Bishops Cleeve Reserves resulted in a three one win. Tuffley Rovers kept up their challenge for the title with a two nil win at Kingswood. The top of the table remains the same with Kings Stanley leading, Tuffley Rovers second and Southmead CS Athletic third.
At the bottom Berkeley are well and truly rooted to the foot of the table eight points behind D.R.G Frenchay and ten behind Taverners.
Kingswood were back in action today after a two week spell away from the game. Their visitors Tuffley Rovers were looking to regain top spot which they lost last week to Kings Stanley. Rovers always looked dangerous on the attack and went close on twelve minutes from a break down the right that was laid back to Richard James whose fierce drive from just outside the box went just over the bar. In the seventeenth minute Rovers center-back Leon Cornwall saw his goal-bound header cleared off the line. Rovers were pushing hard and the home defence weathered the storm with some stout defending. Kingswood should have taken the lead on twenty five minutes when a cross into the Rovers box was spilled by keeper Chris Perks and with the goalmouth gaping Joe Compton missed the target from eight yards. Just before the break Tuffley piled on the pressure and it paid off as Marcus Foxwell sent over a cross into the box and Richard James turned it into the net.

At this stage the home defence had their work cut out as first James saw his shot well saved by Chris Fox and then the keeper was in action again to save a great shot from Antione Thompson. Rovers work rate was non stop and the home side found it very difficult to retain the ball for any length of time. A shot from Marcus Foxwell in the sixtieth minute from a full thirty yards just cleared the bar and a couple of minutes later Warren Mann struck the crossbar. A free kick from twenty five yards taken by Kingwoods’ Simon Clark saw Perks in action for the first time in the second half then just a minute later Rovers got a second goal. A fierce drive through a crowd of players had home keeper Chris Fox at pull stretch but he could only parry the ball away and Richard James was on hand to fire the rebound home. The home side was up against it as Rovers continually pushed forward but they held firm. Kingswood almost score in the very last minute of the game from a Simon Clark free kick that was dipping under the bar, but somehow Perks managed to spoon the ball over the top.
Kings Stanley remain top after trouncing bottom Club Berkeley Town five nil at Station Road. This was top versus bottom and although the home side Berkeley Town kept Stanley out for thirty minutes they conceded goal at regular intervals after that. The star of the day for Stanley was Jake Davies who netted a hat-trick. Davis netted his first on thirty minutes and that was followed right on half time with a second for the visitors from Ben Newman netting from the penalty spot. Danny Chandler made it three nil five minutes into the second half and Davies scored his second on seventy minutes to make it four nil. Davies completed his hat-trick in the eighty ninth minute giving Stanley a very comfortable win.

Southmead CS Athletic bounced back from their heavy defeat in midweek to take the points at Bishops Cleeve Reserves. The visitors opened the scoring after thirty minutes after Vinny Coote and Rob Massey set up Terry Caswell to score from the edge of the box. Five minute later they scored again this time the build up involved Gary Booth and Dominic Holver to tee up Rob Sivers to score from close range. The home side pulled a goal back in the fortieth minute from a corner Will Pugh heading the ball home. The best goal of the day was an own goal from Cleeve player Ben Robinson whose thirty yard lob back to his own keeper Dan Greenhouse just flew over his head into the roof of the net.
The game at Hanham Athletic saw the lead change twice and two own goals from the home side. An own goal by Kris Allen after eight minutes gave Henbury the lead, then seven minutes later the home side drew level Craig Stone heading home Joss Dakwa’s cross. Another own goal this time by Steve Moore gave Henbury the lead again on thirty five minutes. James Shipman broke clear on fifty minutes to chip the keeper to put Hanham on level terms and then in the sixtieth minute the home side took the lead for the first time in the game with a second from Shipman tapping home from close range. Henbury salvaged a point with ten minutes left with a cracking goal from Eddie Howell firing home from just inside the box.

A third success on the spin for Longlevens as they won three-two at home to Ellwood. Shaun O’Connor set up Brad Martin to put the home side in front after two minutes and almost got a second just before half time when Ryan Dunn struck the crossbar. Ellwood hit back on fifty minutes as substitute Lee Scotford slid the ball past the home keeper. Longlevens had several chances to retake the lead but had to wait until the seventieth minute for their second goal scored by Shaun O’Connor. Substitute Adam Hughes gave the home side a two goal cushion with a twenty yard drive in the eight third minute and then in time added at the end of the game Daryl Addis netted a second for Ellwood.
D.R.G. Frenchay picked up a valuable point at home to Bristol Academy the score-line finishing one – one. The Academy had the better of the first twenty minutes but did not really trouble the home keeper. It was the home side who took the lead on twenty three minutes from a long ball up field from Joe Maynard and good work by James Kenway challenging the visitor’s keeper with the ball falling for Liam Powell to drive home from twenty five yards. The Academy leveled the score from a cross into the home box that was only partially cleared and Ibrahima Diallo drove the ball home from twenty yards.

Thornbury Town went down three nil at home to Chipping Sodbury Town. Lloyd Harding gave the visitors the lead on sixteen minutes heading home from a corner. Sodbury had several other good chances in the first half both Ben Hemmings and Mark Hughes going close. Early in the second half Thornbury’s Christian Irwin was only just wide with a headed chance. Sodbury went two up on eighty minutes through Mark Totterdell and then were reduced to ten men as Luke Maby was dismissed. Steve Thompson then missed a good chance to pull a goal back for the home side and then in the very last minute Totterdell broke into the Thornbury box and was fouled, the referee pointing to the spot. Justin Cattle took the kick and duly planted into the back of the net.
Taverners are struggling to get away from the lower reaches of the table and suffered a two-one defeat at home to Patchway Town Matt Tovey headed Patchway into the lead and a second from Mark Palmer gave the visitors a two goal cushion. Patchway keeper Martin Alford gave the home side some hope when he punched the ball into his own net for the Taverners goal. The home side pushed hard for the equaliser but with out any success.

Frampton United entertained Yate Town Reserves fresh from their six- one win at Southmead in mid-week. With very little goalmouth action it looked as though the game would end goalless but that changed with just five minutes to go. A mistake by the Frampton defence gave Jay Belton the easiest of chances for Yate to snatch all three points.

9th February 2013 - Bishops Cleeve end Rockleazes perfect home record
Heavy over night rain meant that league leaders Tuffley Rovers had to postpone their fixture with Thornbury Town, opening the door for Kings Stanley to become the new leaders if they could win at Henbury. They came away with a 2-1 victory and move into top spot. Southmead CS Athletic were in action for the first time for a couple of weeks and consolidated their third place position with a 3-0 victory over Hanham Athletic. Rockleaze Rangers slipped up at home to Bishops Cleeve Reserves and Ellwood were held to a draw at Taverners. Longlevens moved up another couple of places at the foot of the table with a win at Berkeley Town.
Rockleaze Rangers had a hundred percent home record until today winning all of their previous eight home games. Bishops Cleeve spoiled that record going away with all three points after a 2-1 victory. The first fifteen minutes saw honors even but a superb pass out to George Nicholls wide on the right in the seventeenth minute change the pattern of the game. The pass which split the home defence gave Nicholls a clear run on goal and as he cut in to the edge of the box he let fly with a tremendous shot that flew across goal into the far corner of the net. Rockleaze might have leveled a couple of minutes later as Oshane West looked clear on goal but somehow Cleeve central defender Paul Ireland managed to slide the ball away for a throw. Nathan Bryer was next on target for the home side but his shot was not good enough to beat Dan Greenhouse in the Cleeve goal. The home side found themselves trailing two nil after twenty nine minutes when Alex Gottwald sent a simple pass back to his keeper Sam Burgess who completely misjudged it and with Stuart Midwinter lurking close by the keeper could not prevent the Cleeve striker from taking the easy chance provided to make it two nil. Rangers gave themselves a life line right on half time as Savas Frangoullis broke down the right moved the ball to Shane Budding who then crossed for Nathan Bryer to send a curling shot passed Greenhouse into the corner of the net.
Rockleaze Rangers V Bishops Cleeve Reserves
The home side made changes at half time and decided to attack the visitors and try and pull the goal deficit back, but it was Cleeve who should have gone further ahead just four minutes into the half when Midwinter had a clear shot on goal but skewed his shot wide. Rangers pushed hard to get a second goal but Cleeve were not about to surrender. Shane Budding shot just wide for Rangers in the sixty fifth minute and seventy five minutes into the game Nathan Bryer missed an easy chance from eight yards. A free kick sent in from the right in the eightieth minute was met by Calum Oakenfold but his header went just wide of the post. Rangers will be disappointed with the result but not their effort.
Kings Stanley sit top of the table after their two - one victory at Henbury. Ryan Stevenson opened the scoring on the half hour capitalizing on a mistake by the home keeper. Henbury hit back in the fiftieth minute with a George Watts goal from a break away. Stanley grabbed the winner just four minutes later from a second mistake by the home keeper coming for a cross failing to connect and giving Danny Stephens the opportunity to score.
In a very even game at Lodge Road Yate between Yate Town Reserves and Bristol Academy the result was decided in the last fifteen minutes from the penalty spot. The referee awarded a penalty for shirt pulling in the box and Jake Jackson stepped up and duly netted from the spot.

Berkeley Town are rooted to the foot of the table but took the lead in this game after going a goal behind after just two minutes, Sean O’Connor curling the ball into the net from the edge of the box for Longlevens. Within four minutes the home side was level James Mackie setting up Luke Palmer to score from a corner. The home side then went into the lead in the twenty seventh minute this time Luke Palmer returned the favour and set up James Mackie to stab the ball home. The lead lasted nine minutes before a long cross to the far post was headed home by Craig Martin to put Longlevens level. The deciding goal came in the fifty ninth minute when Sean O’Connor netted from the penalty spot to give the visitors the three points.
Taverners gained a valuable point at home to Ellwood. Home keeper Duane Portlock was drawn into action after just four minutes bringing off a fantastic save to deny Ellwood taking the lead. But after twenty five minutes the visitors were in front from a Daryl Addis strike. Taverners drew level on fifty three minutes as Luke Bedwell drilled the ball home following a corner. Taverners were then reduced to ten men when Richard Kerry got his marching orders and although down to ten men the home side almost snatched the three points when Dave Woodfield had a great chance but ran the ball to wide and lost the shooting chance.

D.R.G. Frenchay took a thirty five minute lead at home to Patchway Town, Jay Wallis finishing off from close range after a great cross into the box. Patchway drew level before the break with a twenty five yard drive from Dan Bendall-Matthews that keeper Lee Francis got his hands to and deflected it on to the upright but it ricocheted across the line hit the other post and into the net. Chris Chinnick gave the visitors the lead in the fifty third minute heading home a cross at the far post. Patchway’s final goal came in time added at the end of the game a penalty converted by Mark Palmer.
Southmead CS Athletic got back to action and winning ways with a three nil victory over Hanham Athletic. Man of the match was Luke Mills who netted a hat-trick for the home side. A fairly even game until the forty third minute when a fine passing movement set up Luke Mills to drive the ball home from the edge of the box. A break down the flank by Danny Glancey in the fifty fourth minute saw the ball pulled back to edge of the box for Mills to strike goal-wards only to see it strike the upright and then rebound straight back to Mills to drive home on his second attempt. Hanham had a great chance to pull a goal back on the hour mark but Sebastian Gribble pulled off a great save to deny James Shipman. The final goal for the home side came in the last minute of the game after the referee played the advantage on the edge of the box, the ball falling nicely for Mills to complete his hat-trick.

2nd February 2013 - Longlevens ease past Henbury
With the three top teams not in League action today, this gave the teams just below a chance to close the gap. Rockleaze Rangers moved into fourth place with their 1-0 victory over Chipping Sodbury Town. Whilst Ellwood’s 1-0 defeat at Thornbury Town dropped them down a place. Bristol Academy failed to make any ground after being held to a 1-1 draw by Bishops Cleeve Reserves. Longlevens, the only team in League action today at the foot of the table climbed two places with a 4-0 home win over Henbury.
Our trip today took us to Gloucester to watch Longlevens v Henbury, an excellent result for the home side but only 6 spectators the lowest ever recorded at a County League game turned up to watch. One of these spectators had travelled down from Gatwick to watch the game. Longlevens were the much better side through-out the game and a poor Henbury performance limited their chances to just two efforts on goal, one in each half. Longlevens won this game 4-0 but it could easily have been seven or eight after missing good goal scoring opportunities. The home side were disappointed after just six minutes when the had the ball in the net but it was disallowed for off-side, however, nine minutes later they went a goal up when Ed Smyllie flicked the ball into the net from a Mike Noakes cross. The home side went 2-0 ahead in the 28th minute after Mike Noakes cut in from the left got his shot on target but the Henbury keeper Ashley Newman completely misjudged the flight of the ball as it crept into the net. A Jack Bebbington 25 yard shot after 34 minutes was the first effort on goal by the visitors but it flew wide of the target. On 38 minutes Mike Noakes headed a third for Longlevens from a great cross by Luke Kavanagh. Two minutes into time added in the first half the home side almost got a fourth but Lee Blackmore’s well directed shot was neatly flicked over the bar by Ashley Newman.
Longlevens V Henbury
Longlevens should had scored again in the 61st minute as Lee Blackmore was sent clear on goal but a remarkable save from Newman pushing Blackmore’s shot away for a corner. Longlevens had another great chance on 65 minutes with the keeper out of position and the ball bobbling along the line where Steve Benbow somehow managed to clear the ball away. Just a minute later the home side scored their fourth, along ball over the top of the Henbury defense was met by Newman but he failed to gather and the ball rolled nicely into the path of Brad Martin to slide the ball into an empty net. The nearest Henbury came to scoring was in the 67th minute when Eddie Howell struck the upright with a fierce shot from just inside the box. Brad Martin missed a glorious chance to make it five with three minutes to go again clear on goal but as the keeper closed him down he failed to make contact with the ball and it ran through to the keeper.
Rockleaze Rangers increased their title chances with a slender 1-0 victory over Chipping Sodbury Town. Sodbury had the first good chance to open the scoring when Justin Cattle tremendous drive struck the cross bar and the power of it took it back outside the 18 yard box. Ranger’s first effort came in the 22nd minute when Calum Oakenfold set up Oshane West but his shot went just over the bar. Just seconds before half time Rangers Savas Frangoullis was adjudged to have handled in the box giving Sodbury a great chance to take the lead from the spot, unfortunately the dependable Justin Cattle saw his effort go the wrong side of the post. A few minutes into the second half Rockleaze almost took the lead when Nathan Bryer’s 25 yard volley beat the keeper but struck the cross bar. The home side did however take the lead on the 66th minute James Pilling prodded the ball home in a goalmouth scramble. Shane Budding almost made it two just after but somehow Sodbury managed to scramble the ball off the line.
Bristol Academy missed the chance to make ground on the top teams when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bishops Cleeve Reserves. The home side opened the scoring on 38 minutes when a cross into the box was turned in by Jordan Lawrence. Cleeve’s Jamie Lock netted a superb goal in the 55th minute when he turned inside from the right before unleashing an unstoppable shot past the home keeper. The Academy had the opportunity to snatch the points late on but Ibrahima Diallo shot struck the cross bar.
Longlevens V Henbury
Ellwood lost ground on the leaders losing 1-0 at Thornbury Town. In a very competitive game Thornbury had the first chance to open the scoring when Pete Fowler’s header was cleared off the line after 35 minutes and from the clearance Steve Alexander blasted the ball over. Just three minutes later Tom Webb saw his effort cleared off the line. A minute before the break the home side grabbed the lead, as Webb again broke down the right crossed to the far post and Mark Greenwood was there to drive the ball home. At the start of the second half the visitors showed more determination and effort but the home defense stood firm. Thornbury might had grabbed a second goal on 70 minutes but the visitors keeper made a good save to deny Steve Thompson.
Frampton United’s second visit to Hanham Athletic this season the first being a victory in the Les James Cup Competition and the second a 2-1 win to take all three points in the league. Some good play by the visitors down the right after 20 minutes saw Steve Jackson tap the ball home from a great cross. It was another 55 minutes before we seen the second goal, again it was the visitors who scored it, Jack Tottle gave away a penalty and Lee Driver-Dickerson made no mistake from the spot. The home side pulled a goal back five minutes from the end when Josh Dakwa headed home a long cross to the far post.
A goalless draw was the order of the day at Patchway Town whose visitors today was Yate Town Reserves. In a game of very few chances Patchway were given the opportunity to snatch all three points in the 55th minute when they were awarded a penalty with John Stephens being nominated to take it, but his fierce shot was straight at the keeper who managed to parry it up into the air and thankfully grabbed it as it dropped back down.

Both Kings Stanley and Taverners progress to the Semi-Finals of the League cup competition.
Kings Stanley won this game 2-0 but from the report sent in, it could well have been by a bigger margin. The home side had much the better of the first half and both Danny Chandler and Danny Stephens were guilty of missing very good goal-scoring chances. The opening goal for Stanley came after 40 minutes from a Nick Humphreys break down the left and a good cross in for Danny Chandler to net. Just before the break the visitors were reduced to ten men when Mike Connor was sent off with a straight red card for a very bad challenge. Ten minutes into the second half Stanley could have increased their lead but Danny Chandler missed an easy chance just several minutes later Nick Humphreys was also guilty of missing another good chance. Stanley increased their lead in the 65th minute when Ryan Stevenson headed home from eight yards. The visitors who were limited to breakaway efforts had their best chance to score ten minutes from the end.
Longlevens V Henbury
Taverners reached the Semi-finals when they beat League leaders Tuffley Rovers winning 4-2 on penalties after the final result finished 1-1 on the day. The first real goal scoring chance fell to Taverners Jamie Bish after ten minutes when he saw his thirty yard shot just touched around the post by the visitor’s keeper. After a goalless first half Taverners opened the scoring on 46 minutes when a cross into the box was headed on by Tom Burridge for Rory Gardiner to finish. Rovers got back in the game on 64 minutes when Taverners failed to clear their lines and Richard James stabbed the ball home in a goal mouth scramble. With the game finishing all square the final result was decided from the penalty spot.
