27th September 2014 - Henbury win at Patchway
Cheltenham Civil service opened up a four point gap after beating Bristol Telephones 2-0. AEK Boco – Chipping Sodbury Town and Kings Stanley all drew. Gala Wilton move into third place with a 3-2 win at Bishops Cleeve Reserves.
Bishops Cleeve Reserves remain at the bottom of the table but Patchway Town have now dropped to second from bottom after losing 3-1 at home to Henbury. Berkeley moved out of the bottom two with a 1-1 draw at Yate Town Reserves.
Patchway Town are having a dreadful season and have dropped into the relegation zone after losing 3-1 at home to local rivals Henbury. It took 19 minutes for either Club to conjure up the first effort on goal and it fell to Henbury a Jack Mills shot from the left side of the box that skimmed past the far post. Henbury got off the mark in the 30th minute with a shot from Adam Rosser from just inside the box. The equalising goal from Patchway Town came 4 minutes later a long range effort from wide on the left from Luke Clennell that looped over the keeper. The visitors were unlucky right on half time when Adam Rosser’s 35 yard drive just cleared the bar.
Henbury took a 2-1 lead five minutes into the second half and almost identical situation to Luke Clennell’s equalising goal for Patchway it came from the same area of the field Jack Mill’s shot looped over the keeper form 35 yards in a cross come shot. Henbury got a third in the 55th minute with yet another long free kick that dropped into the Patchway box from the left and with Danny Simpson bearing down Chris Church sliced the ball into his own net. The home side were limited to just one opportunity in the second half a free kick on the right of the box fired low by Mark Stoneham at the Henbury goal but never troubled the visitor’s keeper.
Cheltenham Civil Service are still undefeated so far this season and have only dropped two points from a possible 27 from nine games. Their latest victims were inform side Bristol Telephones who for the last three weeks have netted 20 goals, but failed to find the back of the net today going down 2-0. The opening goal for the home side came in the 34th minute from a super through ball from TJ Bick that sent Stuart Mitchinson clear to fire into the bottom corner. TJ Bick then found the back of the net for the second after 54 minutes with a superb 20 yard free kick.
Thornbury Town and Chipping Sodbury Town had to be satisfied with a 1-1 scoreline in a very hard fought game. Sodbury grabbed the lead a minute before the break with a neatly taken goal from Danny Coombes slotting home at the near post. Thornbury were reduced to 10 men in the 67th minute when Richard Curtis was dismissed for a second bookable offence. The home side hit back in the 75th minute to earn a hard fought draw when Nathan Irwin turned the ball in from 6 yards.
Hanham Athletic eased their worries with a 2-0 victory over Ellwood and took the lead in the 25th minute from a ball pumped into the box that was well controlled by Sean Morris who then laid it back for Rob Burton to score. The home side then made it 2-0 ten minutes later with some great skill from Josh Dakwa who lifted the ball over the defence for George Cryer to latch onto and lob the ball over the keeper.
Gala Wilton picked up their first points in three weeks with a 3-2 victory at Bishops Cleeve Reserves. The home side went one up on 15 minutes with an own goal a cross into the box that struck the back of a Gala defender before striking the post and going in. The home side went 2-0 up in the 41st minute when Connor Sherry turned in a cross from close range. The visitors hit back a minute before the break when Ellis Waugh received a pass out on the right before cutting in to drive the ball home at the near post. The equalising goal for Gala came in the 62 minute when the Cleeve defence got themselves in a muddle and gave away a penalty that Lee Allen converted. The home side must have felt they had earned a point but it was not to be as a free kick sent into the box was headed home by Gala’s Craig Howell to give them the three points in the very last minute.
Rockleaze Rangers gave themselves a boost with a 3-2 wins at home to Southmead CS Athletic. This was a game of three penalties all awarded to the home side but only one was converted. The first of the penalties came after 23 minutes when the visitor’s keeper Bowering brought down Ed Freeman. Up stepped dependable Aaron Day but he fired well wide of the target. On the half hour mark a double effort from Rob Cox and Ed Freeman was scrambled off the line by Southmead. The second penalty arrived right on half time when Southmead centre back Joe Wenham brought down Ed Freemen. This time the penalty was left to Jack Dempsey who fired the ball past keeper Bowering. Southmead hit back in the 49th minute with a 25 yard shot from Luke Bayford that deflected off Neil Simmons and caught home keeper Burgess on the wrong foot. In the 51st minute Simmons made up for his error and sent a slide rule pass through to Robbie Cox to net a second for the home side. Freeman who had been in the thick of it with the penalties then scored a superb solo effort riding the tackles of several Southmead defenders before slotting the ball home on the hour. The visitors hit back in the 78th minute when Luke Coghlan rounded Aaron Day before firing a 20 yard shot into the net. 5 minutes from the end the home side were awarded a third penalty when Matt Sykes brought down Tim Downes and with Dempsey off the field it was down to Aaron Day to take his second penalty of the afternoon and unfortunately he failed again from 12 yards as his shot was saved by keeper Bowering.
Kings Stanley were held to a 2-2 draw by their closest rivals Frampton United. It was the visitors who went ahead on 16 minutes from a ball into the box that was volleyed home by Ryan Vincent. Liam Gale then had a good shot blocked on the line by the Frampton defence on 20 minutes. A minute later Stanley were level when Gale controlled the ball well before firing into the bottom corner. Frampton should have taken the lead just before the break but Nathan Dennis’s header went just over the bar. Then right on half time home keeper Regan Garraway kept the ball out of the Stanley net with a superb save. A Jake Davis neat flick with the outside of the foot put Stanley in front on 55 minutes, but the visitors went away with a point with a goal from the penalty spot scored by Matt Cook on 65 minutes.
Kingswood fell behind after 3 minutes to a free kick that was headed home by Dan Brister. Kingswood drew level on the half hour after Gary Simmons was brought down in the box by the visitors keeper and Tom Higgins netted the resulting penalty. A great finish from the edge of the box by Simon Clark gave the home side the lead after 35 minutes. It took another 40 minutes before the score was level and this time it was another penalty given away by Frank Hitchings with Charlie Stevens netting from the spot.
Yate Town Reserves vs Berkeley Town finished all square at 1-1. The home side took the lead on 35 minutes when Sam Gilchrist charged down a poor clearance from the visitors keeper. Within a couple of minutes Berkeley were level after the home keeper made a blunder and gave away a penalty that Tom Palmer netted to level.
20th September 2014 - Chipping Sodbury too strong for Kingswood
Cheltenham Civil Service go 2 pts clear at the top after their convincing win at Berkeley Town. AEK Boco are in 2nd place 2pts behind after being held at home by Yate Town Reserves. Chipping Sodbury Town’s win at home to Kingswood moves them into 3rd place.
At the bottom Southmead CS Athletic have moved of the bottom of the table with their second win in 5 days, whilst Bishops Cleeve Reserves now sit at the bottom with Berkeley Town and Patchway Town just above.
Chipping Sodbury Town got back to league action after a two week lay off due to Cup commitments with a 2-0 win at home to local rivals Kingswood. For the first 38 minutes of this game both sides failed to break through their defences although the home side did force several corners one of which looked dangerous until the Kingswood keeper Chris Fox rose well to fist the ball away. Neither side had managed a shot on target until the 39th minute when Kingswood should have taken the lead as Paul Bleakens cross into the box found Tom Higgins with space to shoot but he hit his shot straight at home keeper George Hale. A couple of minutes later Sodbury’s Sam Jenkins let fly from the edge of the box but it went just wide. Right on half time Kingswood were caught out with a quickly taken free kick which found Danny Coombes on the right and from the edge of the box he sent over a looping shot that cleared keeper Fox and dropped under the bar at the far post. The reaction of the Sodbury players on taking the lead that it had been a lucky strike.
The second half went to the home side who created a number of chances to increase the lead with Shots from Danny Coombes and a couple from Justin Cattle bringing the best out of keeper Chris Fox. The visitors first real strike on goal came after 59 minutes a ball squared across the edge of the box for Simon Clark who struck the ball well but it went straight to George Hale. Sodbury got a second goal on 70 minutes from a Kingswood free kick that was struck well but rebounded back up field and the home side caught the visitors defence out and a cross into Mike England gave him the opportunity to stab the ball past Fox. Kingswood had another chance to pull a goal back on 73 minutes from a free kick on the edge of the box that was well struck by Simon Clark but George Hale dived full length to push the ball away for a corner. Ollie Clark then missed a great opportunity to make it 3-0 to the home side and then right at the end George Hale pulled off a great save to deny Gary Simmons a goal for Kingswood.
Southmead CS Athletic who have been on the bottom of the table all season have finally hauled themselves up the table with two straight wins in a week. Their first win came at Bishops Cleeve Reserves on Tuesday and they beat Patchway Town 2-1 today. All three gaols came late in the game with Southmead taking the lead on 70 minutes with a 35 yard free kick from Luke Bayford. A tap in 10 minutes later by Arron Pope gave the home side a 2-0 lead. Patchway hit back with a goal right on time scored by Mark Stoneham.
Henbury went 5-0 up against bottom Club Bishops Cleeve Reserves before two late goal pulled it back to 5-2. Henbury went ahead after 3 minutes when a shot from Adam Rosser was to hot to hold by Clark in the visitors goal and Aaron Anglin swept the ball home. Tom Palmer’s accurate pass to Anglin allowed the striker to net a second on 14 minutes. The third on 24 minutes was a solo effort from Tom Palmer who latched onto a long ball before driving the ball past Clark from the edge of the box. Danny Simpson netted number four after Clark failed to hold another powerful shot and Simpson was on hand to score. Adam Rosser put the home side 5-0 to the good with a great shot on 50 minutes. In the last 10 minutes of the game Cleeve hit back with two goals the first on 80 minutes from a free kick that the home keeper could only palm away and Mitch Bennett drove the ball home. The second on 85 minutes was a cross from Mat McGee headed home by James Pickup.
Cheltenham Civil Service are flying high at present after picking up another three points with a 5-0 win at Berkeley Town. Leading goalscorer Jack Sklenar was on target with a brace the first coming from the penalty spot after 1 minute. Sklenar then pulled the ball back for Stuart Michinson to net the second on 30 minutes. A third goal on 53 minutes was a second for Jack Sklenar with Paul Holmes making it 4-0 in the 77th minute. Connor Hart rounded the scoring off in the 90th minute.
AEK Boco dropped two points when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Yate Town Reserves. The home side went ahead after just 5 minutes when Darren Werrett won a corner that was taken by Jack Winter whose cross into the box found the head of Jordan Scott for the lead. A Jack Winter free kick was headed against the post by Rich Sperring after 15 minutes. Yate gave them selves an up hill task after losing Liam Pullen sent off for a bad challenge on 35 minutes. A rare slip by home keeper Joe Pople allowed Callum Hackers in to level the score in the 85th minute
Frampton United ran out 3-1 winners over Hanham Athletic who are gradually sliding down the table. Stuart Maule gave the home side the lead on 20 minute heading home a good cross into the box. Frampton went into the break with a 2-0 lead after Dan Huxstep rose above everyone to head home. In the second period the home side created several more chances to increase the lead which eventually came in the 86th minute from Kris Bulley. The visitors did get a consolation goal in the 89th minute netted by Sean Morris
Thornbury Tow must be pleased with their performance today after returning from the Forest of Dean with a 3-1 victory over Ellwood. The home side went ahead on 15 minutes with a goal from Darryl Addis. Danny Haines levelled on 35 minutes with a deflected shot. A free kick from Rob Wilks a minute before the break gave Thornbury the lead. Danny Thompson secured the three points in the 86th minute.
Gala Wilton lost for the second week running at home this time going down 3-0 to Kings Stanley. A double from Danny Chandler and the third from Liam Gale gave Stanley the three points.
Bristol Telephones are on a scoring spree at the moment netting another six goals this week. Phones took the lead after 6 minutes after Aaron McQuaid broke out of defence and squared the ball to Dhani Golding to score. A minute later Golding was on the score sheet again. Rangers pulled a goal back in the 43th minute with a cross shot from Ed Freeman that looped over the keepers head. Martin Blacker restored the two goal lead on 49 minutes from the edge of the box. Golding was brought down in the box two minutes later and then netted from the spot. Adam Gregory then headed the fifth in the 77th minute and Kieran Golding added a sixth to give the home side a resounding win.
13th September 2014 - Rockleaze win over Berkeley
Cheltenham Civil Service remains the leaders on goal difference over AEK Boco after their 1-1 draw today. Gala Wilton dropped to third after losing at home to Henbury.
This game kicked off 35 minutes late due to the late arrival of the Referee. Rockleaze Rangers recorded their second win of the season with a 3-1 home victory over Berkeley Town. Rangers were much the better side in the first half and should have been a couple of goals up before they eventually took the lead in the 18th minute from a free kick that was pumped into the box from the left and Aaron Day found the back of the net. Berkeley were limited to a couple of long range efforts early on that were never going to trouble Sam Burgess in the home goal. Three minutes after the Rangers goal Berkeley were unlucky when Dan Gaynor’s shot struck the upright. Carl Lakey could have given the home side a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute but somehow managed to miss the target when clear on goal. Ranger’s second goal was a good finish from Richard Bray dinking the ball over keeper Adam Smith after a great through ball from Ed Freeman.
Rangers almost got a third in the first minute of the second half but Berkeley managed to clear the ball off the line. From this point on and for the next 20 minutes Berkeley dominated the game pushing the home defence back. Joe Dalglish shot wide then Burgess brought of a good save from a Tom Palmer free kick pushing the ball over the bar. Martin Smith was next on target and again Burgess pushed the ball over. Town kept the pressure up and in the 65th minute Burgess brought off the save of the afternoon when he dived full length to palm away a Sam Strickland free kick fro 25 yards. A minute later Berkeley made it 2-1 again another free kick awarded on the left that was driven into the box by Tom Palmer and Martin Smith found the back of the net. Dan Gaynor should have levelled the score on 68 minutes after Sam Strickland weaved his way into the box from the right and slipped the ball to Gaynor who then lifted the ball way over the top. That glaring miss was followed by another from Gaynor on 77 minutes when he latched onto a long ball ran clear of the defence and then chipped the ball over Burgess but it went just the wrong side of the post. Against the run of play Rockleaze netted a third goal on 79 minutes when Rob Cox’s shot was spilled by keeper Smith and Carl Lakey was on hand to slip the ball home.
Surprise result of the day was at Gala Wilton where Henbury came away with a 4-2 win. The home side were first on the score sheet after 15 minutes from a cross into the box from the right that was turned in by Ellis Waugh. Henbury levelled the score on 49 minutes from a shot from Adam Rosser that was saved by the home keeper but the ball went straight to Sean Heal to drive home. The visitors then took the lead in the 65th minute with a cracking shot from Adam Rosser. Gala made it 2-2 in the 75th minute when he burst through the Henbury defence. Two late goals from Henbury the first on 85 minutes a brilliant 25 yard shot from Adam Rosser clipping the inside of the post before running back across goal and in. The final goal from the penalty spot in time added at the end was converted by dale Simpson.
Thornbury Town’s home fixture with Frampton United only produced two goals both scored in the second half. A minute into the second half Steve Jackson latched on to some indecision in the home defence to put Frampton one up and although Town pushed for the equaliser it never came until the 89th minute from a long ball into the box that Pete Fowler managed to bundle into the net.
Kings Stanley are slowly climbing the table after recording a 3-1 win at home to Hanham Athletic. The opening goal for Stanley on 13 minutes came from some good work by McDermott and Robertson with the final cross into the box from Robertson finding Liam Gale free to give them the lead. Dan Chandler then made it 2-0 after 20 minutes and it should have been 3-0 on 43 minutes but Dan Chandler hit the post from the penalty spot. A header form Gale in the 58th minute put the home side 3-0 in front, but almost immediately Mark Johns pulled a goal back for Hanham.
Cheltenham Civil Service remain top, but dropped their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw at home to AEK Boco. Jordan Scott gave the visitors the lead after 26 minutes but within a minute the home side drew level through leading goalscorer Jack Sklenar. The report indicated that it was not a very good game overall but both sides will settle for the draw.
Ellwood who have lost their last three games conceding 11 goals and failing to score pulled off a surprise result at Kingswood. The visitors had most of the play in the first 45 minutes and only some good saves by home keeper Chris Fox kept the score to 0-0 at the break. The winning goal for Ellwood came in the 60th minute turned in by Jamie Powell.
For the second week running Bristol Telephones net seven goals and only concede one. Last week it was Bishops Cleeve Reserves at home this week it was Patchway Town away who were on the end of a pasting. Dhani Golding hit the back of the net on four occasions backed up by a hat-trick from Jack Fillingham. The consolation goal for Patchway Town was scored by Chris Kritikos.
6th September 2014 - Thornbury stun Hanham
With Chipping Sodbury Town not playing today this gave the challenging teams the chance to move above them. Cheltenham Civil Service Gala Wilton and AEK Boco all picked up maximum points. Cheltenham have a 100% record and are currently top on goal difference from the other two Clubs.
At the bottom of the table Southmead remain bottom but with Patchway Town and Yate Town Reserves picking up their first win of the season Bishops Cleeve Reserves drop into the bottom two.
Thornbury Town’s young side hit back from a goal down to Hanham Athletic at the break to finally storm home by four goals to one. Thornbury did look the better side for the first few minutes and got the ball in the Hanham net in the first minute but it was ruled out for offside. The home side opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Adam Grinter sent out a long ball to the left wing for Joss Dakwa and then Grinter moved just inside the box for the cross from Dakwa before firing the ball past Lippiatt. Thornbury were limited to several long shots that were easily dealt with by keeper Fletcher in the home goal.
Town levelled the score 5 minutes into the second half when Luke Franklin shot from the edge of the box. Thornbury began to get on top and took the lead with a goal from Toby Bennett in the 61st minute. Craig Lancastle made it 3-1 on 75 minutes with a good shot into the bottom corner. Thornbury were well on top and scored again on 77 minutes a second for Toby Bennett.
Bristol Telephones sent Bishops Cleeve Reserves home with their tail between their legs after thumping them 7-1. Ryan Webber netted a hattrick and Martin Blacker chipped in with a brace the other two coming from Dhani Golding and Jack Fillingham. The consolation goal for Cleeve came courtesy of Connor Sherry.
A 1-0 win for Patchway Town at Berkeley Town lifted them out of the bottom two. The only goal was headed home from a corner on 17 minutes by Phil Vice. Patchway also missed a penalty.
Southmead CS Athletic got off to a fine start at home to Gala Wilton taking the lead in the 31st minute with a penalty netted by Shane Nicholls. They hung onto the lead until the 60th minute when Myron Turner levelled the score. The home side were beaten in time added at the end of the game when Turner popped up to net the winner.
Frampton United took the lead in the 22nd minute when Dan Huxstep fired home after the ball came back of the upright. Ryan Mudd’s 28th minute goal for Kingswood made it 1-1 at the break. James Gilvear’s 61st minute strike put the visitors in front and it was enough to give them the three points.
Ellwood are having a rough time of it lately after losing heavily in the week they were beaten 3-0 at home by Yate Town Reserves. Yate went into the break leading 2-0 after Anton Dowe had given them the lead on 26 minutes followed by a second a minute before the break from Jordan Hickman. A third goal 5 minutes from the end from Sean Keet saw the visitors go away with their first win of the season.
Cheltenham Civil Service are top of the table tonight after their 3-1 win at Henbury. Leading scorer Jack Sklenar gave the visitors the lead on 25 minutes and 10 minutes later they went two up with an own goal from the home side. Aaron Rosser pulled a goal back for Henbury on 44 minutes, but a second goal from the leagues leading goalscorer Sklenar on 80 minutes sealed the points.
AEK Boco kept up their challenge with a 3-1 win over Rockleaze Rangers. The home side went into the break with a 1-0 lead a penalty from Charlie Stevens after 35 minutes. Stevens made it 2-0 in the 76th minute before Aaron Day pulled one back for Rangers. A third goal from Jack Green in the 80th minute made sure the points were safe.
