24^th September 2016 - Thornbury see off nine man Henbury

Stonehouse Town increase their lead to six points with a win at Rockleaze Rangers Southmead CS Athletic gain there first point of the season at AEK Boco.

Thornbury Town took the spoils at home to Henbury with a 3-1 win. It was Henbury who might have scored first after 2 minutes from a long free kick into the box that Adam Rosser rose well to but the ball skimmed off his head and out for a goal kick. A couple of minutes later Rob Wilks was on Target but he hit it straight at the town keeper Lee Mason. In the 6^th minute Thornbury were fortunate to take the lead when a cross from the right was headed into his own net by Rob Wilks. Henbury levelled the score on the half hour mark with a cracking goal from Jack Mills who struck a 30 yard free kick past Mason. On 37 minutes a Danny Thompson header from A Marcus Wormwell cross went straight to the Henbury keeper Callum Flint. Thornbury were unlucky in the 39^th minute when a long corner to the far post from Wormwell was headed back across goal but Nathan Irwin’s header was brilliantly cleared off the line by Adam Rosser. At the other end Mason managed to palm the ball away from a free kick and Jack Mills hit a second free kick over the top. In time added at the end of the half Danny Thompson put Irwin clear on goal but he shot wide.

2 minutes into the second half the home side went ahead again and it was Marcus Wormwell’s shot that was blocked but rebounded to Luke Franklin to smash the ball home. Irwin had a good chance to increase the lead 66 minutes but with a clear shot on goal he hit it wide. Henbury broke down the right and the cross into the six yard box was neatly grabbed by Mason before it could reach the unmarked Aaron Anglin. Mason then brought off a good save to deny Anglin from a tight angle. On 73 minutes the visitors were reduced to ten men when Reece Purnell picked up a second yellow card. To make things even worse for Henbury they went down to nine men on 84 minutes when Jack Mills also picked up a second yellow and was dismissed. In the 86^th minute Henbury almost got a second when Scott Thomas’s header from a corner was cleared off the line. With just 2 minutes left of normal time Town scored a third goal from a long corner to the far post from Danny Thompson and Nathan Irwin headed it home.

Stonehouse Town continue to lead the table picking up yet another 3 points at Rockleaze Rangers. Andy Maryon gave Town the lead on 40 minutes with a flicked header from a corner. Marcus Williams levelled the score when he drifted past several defenders before driving the ball home. Alex Kibble restored the lead for the visitors heading home from a cross from Matt Jones. Liam gale then increased the lead when he was put clear on goal. Town made it 4-1 when Lee Keveren slid the ball home from close range.

Southmead CS Athletics’ trip to AEK Boco produced their first point of the season after going behind to a Jordan Scott goal on 23 minutes Rob Sivers levelled with a shot from 25 yards. Luke Nash restored the lead for the home side when he chipped the visitors’ keeper on 80 minutes, but with 2 minutes to go Kye Perks scored to give Athletic their first point.

Bishops Cleeve Reserves came back from a goal down to win 2-1 at home to Kingswood. Ryan Mudd had put the visitors ahead on 40 minutes when he chested home from a corner. Matt Magee levelled for the home side in the 60^th minute finishing off a Jamie Lock cross. Cleeve grabbed the winner in the 75^th minute when Mike Davis put Elliot Pulley clear to fire home.

Hardwicke bounced back from their heavy defeat last week with a 3-2 win over Gala Wilton. It started badly for the home side when Dan Creed hammered the ball home for Gala Wilton in the very first minute from a free kick. On 20 minutes the home side were on level terms when Craig Harris lobbed the Gala keeper from 20 yards. Right on half time home keeper Kenny Edwards made a brilliant save to deny Mark Mason scoring. However 2 minutes into the second half the visitors went ahead again Kyle Bakewell volleying home from a cross into the box. On 64 minutes the home side levelled again when a ball over the visitors defence found Will Matthews to head the ball over the advancing keeper. It was Matthews who then scored the winner for Hardwicke when he powered home a Craig Harris cross at the far post.

A 2-2 score-line at Bristol Telephones where Frampton United were the visitors. Frampton were awarded a penalty after 5 minutes but keeper Osborne brought off a great save. Kyran Hunt’s shot was just off target on 10 minutes for the home side. But it was Frampton who went ahead on 30 minutes when Joe Wilton cut in before firing across Osborne into the far corner. Telephones equalised on 60 minutes from a deep cross from Dhani Golding that was headed home by Mike Alvis. On 64 minutes the home side got their noses in front when Ben Griffiths broke into the box and a mistake by the Frampton keeper allowed Dhani Golding the chance to flick the ball home. In time added at the end of 90 minutes Frampton secured a point from a crisp shot from Jonathan Lewis from just on the edge of the box.

Hanham suffered a 5-1 defeat at home to Lebeq United. Will De-Wet gave the visitors the lead on 25 minutes picking up a rebound from a previous shot. Cory Wilson then made it 2-0 on 36 minutes heading home in the six yard box. Cory Wilson scored again on 70 minutes this time a tap in from close range. On 85 minutes Hanham’s Adam Grinter netted with a 25 yard free kick. Right on time Abdurahman Wayd made it 4-1 and Clinton Wilson netted from the spot for the fifth goal.

Little Stoke recorded their second win of the season with 2-0 success over Broadwell Amateurs. An early Keiran Williams shot was pushed around the post for a corner before Dan Cockram gave Stoke the lead. A second goal for Stoke from John Rugman before the break put them in a comfortable position. Stoke have a very tight defence and that held firm for the second 45 minutes.

Cheltenham Civil Service and Patchway Town had to be satisfied with a 1-1 draw at Tewksbury Road. Both goals came late in the game with the home side taking the lead on 71 minutes through Sean McKeon. Patchway levelled on 78 minutes from a long throw that was eventually headed home by Luke Garbacz

17^th September 2016 - Grinter hat-trick seals Hanham Athletic win at Southmead

Stonehouse Town remain top with a win over Little Stoke with Cheltenham Civil service moving into second place with a convincing win at Gala Wilton.

The battle which involved the bottom two teams Southmead CS Athletic and Hanham Athletic finished with a good win for Hanham.

The battle at the bottom of the table between Southmead CS Athletic and Hanham Athletic went very well for the visitors who left with a 3-0 win courtesy of a hat-trick from Adam Grinter. The visitors showed early promise and a shot from Jamie Fry went just over after 2 minutes. The home side’s first effort came after 11 minutes a shot from Rob Sivers but he hit straight at keeper Max Heavan. on 14 minutes home keeper Danny Cook made an almighty blunder and passed the ball to Grinter just on the edge of the box, Grinter drifted past the keeper but Terry Caswell had moved into position to cover but instead of Grinter shooting he tried to go round Caswell who cleverly took the ball off of him. Just a minute later Grinter made up for that bungled chance and slid the ball home from almost on the line at the far post after a low cross had been pumped across the six yard box. Cook almost gave Grinter another opportunity to score a couple of minutes later when he dropped the ball at Grinter’s feet but a defender managed to stab the ball away for a corner. The home side made it even harder for themselves on 23 minutes when Darren Coghlan was shown a red card for throwing a punch. On 44 minutes Hanham scored a second and it came from a good build up the ball being pushed through to Adam Grinter by Jamie Fry and the ball flew past Cook in the home goal.

Early in the second half Chris Williams tried his luck from the edge of the box but the ball went over the bar. Reece Evans should have at least got his shot on target when he found himself in space on the edge of the box but hurried his shot and it went way off target. Rob Sivers who worked hard through out the game for the home side saw his shot go way over the bar on 61 minutes. A minute later at the other end a terrific shot from George Latham struck the bar. On 65 minutes Hanham were awarded a penalty when Adam Grinter was upended in the box. He dragged himself up and coolly slotted the penalty home to make it 3-0 and complete his hattrick. Hanham still kept pressing and were unlucky not to have scored a fourth goal on 67 minutes when Latham hit the upright.

Frampton United entertained local rivals Hardwicke in what turned out to be a very convincing win for the home side. Myron Turner must take the plaudits finding the net on four occasions. Frampton were a goal up after just 24 seconds when Monola Marquez Espada thunderous shot struck the cross bar and Myron Turner picked up the rebound to head home. Hardwicke drew level on 31 minutes when Will Matthews turned in the box to drive the ball home. 1-1 at the break with all the action coming in the second half. Turner made it 2-1 on 61 minutes taking full advantage when the visitor’s keeper dropped the ball. On 64 minutes Turner competed his hat-trick when Joe Wilton pulled the ball back for the in form striker. Following a corner on 67 minutes Joe Wilton struck the ball home from the edge of the box. A few minutes later a Jack Phillips shot was parried by the keeper but Wilton was there to follow up to net his second. Turner then netted his fourth to make it 6-1 and the home side made it seven on 88 minutes with a penalty taken by Jonathon Lewis. In time added Hardwicke scored their second Craig Harris making the final score 7-2.

Another big score today at Henbury where the home side thumped six into the Bishops Cleeve net without reply. The home side went a goal up after 10 minutes from a corner taken by Caelan Simpson who found Scott Thomas to head back across goal and Jack Bebbington bundled the ball home. Thomas then got on the score sheet with a headed goal from an Adam Rosser free kick on 24 minutes. Henbury went 3-0 up when Aaron Anglin was brought down in the box and Anglin then netted the resulting spot kick. It was Rosser’s cross in the 61^st minute that saw Jack Bebbington with a neat finish for his second. Anglin netted his second when he rounded two defenders before driving the ball home. Then in the 83^rd minute a cross from Ross Jones was neatly finished off by Caelan Simpson.

Gala Wilton were unable to contain a rampant Cheltenham Civil Service side and went down 4-0 at home. The visitors pretty well controlled the game from start to finish and took an early lead through Adam Loveridge. Sam Mason added to the scoreline with across come shot before the break. Sonnie Burrows grabbed a brace in the second half to give the visitors a comfortable victory.

Stonehouse Town are still four points clear at the top of the table with a 2-1 victory over today’s visitors Little Stoke. Nothing to write home about in the first 45 minutes with very little goalmouth action. In the 55^th minute the home side took the lead after Tim Williams was brought down in the box and Alex Kibble netted from the spot. Stonehouse went 2-0 up on 70 minutes when Tim Williams flicked the ball on to Liam Gale to run clear and slot the ball home. Little Stoke hit back on 79 minutes when the ball which was bobbling around in the box was eventually struck goalwards where home keeper Will Pedrick punched clear but it fell nicely to Kieran Williams to drive home.

Kingswood continue their good form with a 3-1 win over Bristol Telephones. The home side went ahead on 25 minutes when Ryan Mudd headed the ball down to Jamie Evans to cut in and drive the ball across the keeper into the far corner. A Josh Stokes pass to Gary Simmons on 44 minutes which split the defence allowing Simmons through to net. A dubious handball on 52 minutes gave Kingswood the chance to 3-0 up from the penalty spot. Simon Clark took the penalty that was saved by Adam Gregory but he was unable to hang on to the ball and Clark followed up to score. Phones pulled a goal back on 55 minutes when Mike Connor headed home from a corner. Chris Fox brought off a great save to deny Dhani Golding in the 80^th minute and keep the scoreline at 2-1. The visitors went down to ten men in the 81^st minute when Martin Blacker picked up a second yellow card. Phones Kyran Hunt struck the cross bar on 86 minutes. The home side also finished with ten men when Adrian Howarth was given a straight red card for retaliation.

Just the one goal at Patchway Town where today’s visitors were Rockleaze Rangers. Rangers were much the better side for the first 15 minutes with the home side failing to find any rhythm. Then in the 26^th minute town struck when Geraint Williams slotted the ball through to Matt Davies who found himself with just the keeper to beat and coolly slotted home. Rangers Aaron Day went close with a header in the 31^st minute and Matt Davies struck the post for town in the 38^st minute. Home keeper Jamie Farmiloe had to be at his best during the second half to keep Rangers at bay.

AEK Boco will be happy with their second win of the season after coming away with a 3-1 victory from Broadwell amateurs. Both sides were guilty of missing easy chances early on but Boco’s Liam Crewe gave the home side a hard time throughout the game. Crewe picked up a loose ball on 32 minutes and drove a low shot into the net. The visitors went 2-0 up on 54 minutes when Liam Jenkins finished off a Jordan Scott cross. Jordan Scott then made it three when he fired home from the edge of the box. The home side pulled a goal back on 70 minutes Dan Latham sliding the ball home.

Lebeq United v Thornbury Town ended goalless but both sides were guilty of missed chances throughout the game. The reporter stated that this was probably a fair result after reflecting on all the chances that went begging.

10^th September 2016 - Patchway win derby at Little Stoke

With the fixture list disrupted today due to the GFA Challenge Trophy on five league fixtures took place. We did have three clubs contesting the first round of the GFA Trophy.

Stonehouse Town have opened up a 4 point gap at the top with a home win over AEK Boco and Kingswood move into second place with a home win over Henbury.

Todays fixture at Little Stoke is what you call a local derby with Patchway Towns ground only a mile up the road. The first encounter between the clubs in the County league turned out to be a bit of a damp squib with plenty of effort from both sides but neither club had the know how to break the deadlock. As always in local derby’s there were plenty of fouls with the referee making numerous booking throughout the game. Patchway had a chance early on when the ball was cleared of the line by Stoke’s Kevin Smith and a minute later keeper Langson punched clear. In the 8^th minute Russ Churches glancing header went over the Patchway bar. The home side were trying their luck with distance shots from outside the box but without any luck. The visitor’s keeper Jamie Farmiloe was called into action on 30 minutes to save a Russ Church shot from the edge of the box. Then right on half time Patchway had a great chance to score when Matt Davies squared the ball across the six yard box but Raphael Waugh missed it altogether.

The home side started well in the second half and Farmiloe was called upon to push the ball out for a corner from a Frazer Robertson shot. Efforts from both Clubs getting shots on target but not good enough to beat either keeper. The home side shot themselves in the foot on 71 minutes when Kevin Smith picked up a second yellow card and was dismissed. Just 2 minutes later the deadlock was broken when Chris Church sent over a long ball to the far side of the box and Luke Garbacz was there to coolly volley the ball past Langson. Patchway should have made it 2-0 on 81 minutes when an almost identical cross from Church found Matt Davies unmarked but he hurried his shot and sent it wide of the target. Town look the more likely to score at this stage of the game and Geraint Williams went close twice with a shot that was really well saved by Langson and then with a header that hit the top of the crossbar. Little Stoke may have only conceded 4 goals in five games but they have failed to score at home in the three matches completed.

Stonehouse Town remain top after another excellent 3-1 win this time over AEK Boco. Boco opened the better side and went ahead on 10 minutes when Alex Kibble brought Paul Coles down in the box and up stepped Liam Crewe to net from the penalty spot. Kibble made up for his early error and levelled the score on 27 minutes with a shot that flew into the bottom corner. A couple of minutes later the Boco keeper Tom Sheppard brought of a great save to deny Kibble getting a second. Town did however take the lead on 36 minutes from a superb Liam Gale cross to the far post where Joe Martin headed it back across Sheppard into the net. The home side brought on Tim Williams in the 65^th minute and straight away he was involved in couple of chances. His first on 67 minutes struck the upright and then through on goal he shot wide a couple of minutes later. In the 80^th minute Callum Ball missed any easy chance to level the score for Boco. Town made sure of the points in time added after the 90 minutes when Andy Maryon squared the ball back from the goal-line for Jonny Brodie to stroke home from 20 yards.

Kingswood’s home game with Henbury was settled in the 67^th minute when home keeper Chris Fox punted a long ball up field it was headed on by Gavin Dibden and Ryan Mudd did the rest. The home side had another good chance in the 80^th minute but Gavin Dibden failed to turn in a good cross from Ryan Mudd.

Cheltenham Civil Service went into a 3-0 lead after 31 minutes at home to Frampton United. The first on 10 minutes came from an acrobatic effort from Sonny Burrows and 5 minutes later Sam Mason raced down the right cut in and sent a low cross into the far corner. On 31 minutes Mason again broke down the flank pulled the ball back across the box and Mike Rhodes finished it off. Frampton hit back in the second half and Frazer Wilsons terrific shot into the top corner on 60 minutes gave the visitors some hope. The home side had a goal disallowed for offside and frustration saw two bookings just after. On 77 minutes Myron Turner scored on the far post to make it 3-2 and a Tim Griffiths save on 82 minutes kept the home side in front.

Another defeat for Southmead CS Athletic going down 2-1 at Thornbury Town. The home side opened the better but it was the visitors who went ahead on 8 minutes when Rob Sivers fired into the bottom corner. Thornbury hit back on 23 minutes when Danny Thompsons cross was headed home by Marcus Wormwell. Danny Thompson then struck the crossbar on 35 minutes. Thornbury grabbed the winner on 80 minutes a cross from Tom Webb was volleyed home by Mark Viner. In time added at the end the home side missed a penalty when Tom Webb’s spot kick was brilliantly saved by Cook in the visitor’s goal.

GFA Trophy Rd 1

Gala Wilton and Hardwicke were drawn against each other in this first round with the teams finishing all square at the end of 90 minutes. Kyle Bakewell gave the home side the lead from the penalty spot in the first minute, but within 2 minutes Hardwicke were level when Paul Carter scored from a free kick. Kyle Bakewell then put the home side in front on 35 minutes but with 15 minutes to go Ed Rimmer equalised for Hardwicke. It went to penalties at the end of 90 minutes and Hardwicke went through to the next round winning 3-2.

Broadwell Amateurs go out of the cup but not without a good fight against higher league opposition Almondsbury UWE from the Toolstaion League Division 1 In fact the home side looked much the better side in the early stages with Jordan Sheen and Ollie Fitt both having shots saved by the visitors keeper Matt Semple. The visitors were unlucky on 30 minutes when Frazer Venables hit the post. Broadwell may well have taken the lead early in the second half but for some good keeping by Semple denying both Ross Gabriel and Danny Latham. On 65 minutes Almondsbury took the lead when Blaine Smith gave away a penalty and Daniel Lane netted from the spot. In the 80^th minute a Latham cross was headed against the post by Ross Gabriel and was then pushed away by an Almondsbury defender using his hand. Gabriel made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-1. The visitor’s stole the show on 85 minutes when a cross from Venables was picked up by Ian Sheppard to slip the ball past Jamie Merry.

3^rd September 2016 - Stonehouse ease past Hanham Athletic

Stonehouse Town remain at the top with a home win over Hanham Athletic. Rockleaze win at Frampton and move into second place with Bristol telephones dropping to third after a heavy defeat at Henbury. At the bottom Southmead have yet to pick up a point and remain bottom with Hanham Athletic dropping to one from bottom.

A really wet afternoon at Stonehouse Town but both sides got the ball down on the deck and played some really good football. The first shot on target came from Hanham Athletic a fierce drive from the edge of the box from Nick Horgan but straight at Will Pedrick. Stonehouse then forced several corners which were cleared but from the second a long range shot from Stonehouse left back flew over the bar. The visitors were lucky in the 6^th minute when the ball was bobbling everywhere in their box but they eventually got it clear. Hanham’s Luke Clapp went close with a header from a corner on 10 minutes. A terrific run into the box from 30 yards by Joe Martin passing several defenders before sliding the ball past Max Heaven to give the home side the lead. Alex Kibble hit a thunderous shot against the visitors crossbar on 20 minutes then in the 27^th minute Stonehouse went 2-0 up. Andy Maryon lifted the ball over the visitors left back for Jamie Martin to run clear and drive the ball home. On 40 minutes Heaven brought of a great save to deny Alex Kibble’s 30 yard free kick going in.

Jamie Martin should have increased the home sides lead on 47 minutes but headed over from a corner. Joe Martin broke clear on the right side of the box but his shot was deflected out for a corner. On 67 minutes Jamie Martin’s long range shot was on target but heaven parried it away. The miss of the game came in the 69^th minute when Liam Gale broke clear on the left sent over a cross to the far post but somehow Jamie Martin struck the post from 2 yards. The home side were creating the chances whilst the visitors put plenty of effort into their game but lacked the final punch. Another chance went begging on 79 minute as Gales cross was met by Andy Maryon but he headed wide. The visitors had the last effort on goal right on time when Grant Ogbourne’s shot from 30 yards just cleared the bar.

Rockleaze Rangers find themselves in second place in the table after coming away with a very good 2-0 win at Frampton United. An early chance fell to the home side but Joe Wilton’s shot was blocked. After 8 minutes the visitors took the lead and it stemmed from a long cross to the far post which was headed back across goal and Jordan Conner volleyed home. Rangers had a great chance to increase that lead on 41 minutes from the penalty spot, but James Marklove brought off a great save to deny James Fitzpatrick. In the 61^st minute Connor latched onto a through ball and drove it into the bottom corner for his second.

A first win of the season for Little Stoke who found the back of the net twice to come away with a 2-1 win at Gala Wilton. The game clicked into life on 20 minutes Gala’s Mark Edwards clipped the top of the crossbar after Dave Wilkinson had set him up. Little Stoke scored their first league goal of the season on 44 minutes all thanks to an error by the home keeper that allowed John Rugman to score. Gala thought they had salvaged a point when the equalised in the 89^th minute when James Dean bundled the ball home after Dave Wilkinson had flicked the ball to him. The visitors had other ideas and in time added Russ Church broke down the left cut in and coolly slotted the ball inside the far post.

Southmead CS Athletic have yet to pick up a point this season and went down by just one goal to nil at home to Bishops Cleeve reserves. The home side had chances the first on 2 minutes when Liam O’Rielly was just wide of the target. a few minutes later Jon Kilpatrick wasted a chance. The visitors shook the home side in the 8^th minute when Jamie Hammond put them in front after the home defence failed to clear. Pope missed a good chance fpor the home side on 22 minutes and right on half time Rob Sivers dragged his shot wide from a Gary Booth free kick. In the 55^th minute the visitors keeper did well to save from Sivers after he connected with Liam Maloney cross. Sivers had another chance on 75 minutes but his long range shot went just over.

Broadwell Amateurs slipped up at home to Thornbury Town going down by the only goal of the game on 82 minutes which was scored by Marcus Wormwell a drive from just outside the box which the home keeper could only help into the net. With few chances throughout the game the only other chance of note was a free kick that was taken by Danny Haines of Thornbury Town the effort just wide of the target.

Patchway Town’s first home game of the season turned out to be very fruitful as they recorded a 2-0 win over AEK Boco. a very even first 45 minutes that changed on 50 minutes when Geraint Williams hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box. Williams scored a second on 71 minutes when he squeezed in front of a defender to slip the ball home from a low cross into the box.

Not a very entertaining game at Hardwicke according to the report. Loads of midfield play and very few chances created. The deadlock was broken in the 43^rd minute from a Leigh Rayson pass that picked out Sam Mason to put Cheltenham ahead. Hardwicke struggled to break through and a free kick form Lee Mansell in the 48^th minute only got as far as the defensive wall. The best chance for the home side came in the 60^th minute when Tobie Webb was clear on goal but failed to get past the visitors keeper Tim Griffiths.

Henbury bounced back from their defeat last week with an excellent 5-2 win over today’ visitors Bristol Telephones. Henbury went ahead after 3 minutes a 20 yard shot from Rob Wilks was parried by the keeper and driven home by Aaron Anglin. On 11 minutes Telephones had the chance to level when Kyran Hunt found himself with a one on one with home keeper Callum Flint the keeper bringing off a great save with his feet. Just a minute later it was 2-0 as Andrew Dickinson dribbled around two players from sent the ball across the face of the goal and it was tapped in by Rob Willks. On 26 minutes Phones were back in the game a cross from the left by Alex Graham was headed home at the far post by Ryan Webber. In the 31^st minute Jack Bebbington received a yellow card for a foul and from the resulting 40 yard free kick Dhani Golding headed home. Just a minute later the home side retook the lead from a cross from Sean Heal that Rob Wilks slotted home. From the kickoff Telephones lost possession and Aaron Anlins shot from the 45 yards flew over the keeper head. In the 51^st minute the home side made it five when Adam Rosser squared the ball to Andrew Dickinson to score from 10 yards

In today’ early kick-off Lebeq United suffered a heavy defeat at home to Kingswood. Ibrahim Sarr gave the home side the lead on 40 minute with a shot from the edge of the box. Simon Clark levelled the score from the penalty spot and an Adam Eldridge header put the visitors 2-1 up. Ryan Mudd then made it 3-1 before Clark netted his second. Clark then completed his hattrick to make it 5-1 before Dominic Holver reduced the arrears for the home side. A late goal from Ricky Bezer made the final score 6-2 to Kingswood.
