26th October 2025 - Sharpness strike late at Ruardean

Mark Simpson

results

After a break in proceedings for the County Cup Sharpness reinforced their position as top dogs with an away win at the notoriously difficult Ruardean Hill Rangers. Frampton retain second spot after a midweek win at Quedgeley whilst Filton surprisingly dropped points against Cribbs.

Up in the Forest, Ruardean Hill Rangers took on leaders Sharpness and made a good start as early as the third minute when a bicycle kick from Max Telling caused panic in the Sharpness area which Clark cleared off the line. A few minutes on Fin Jones twisted and turned and fed Luke Brown who shot over from 30 yards. The game then settled and after that early spell of Hill pressure neither team created much and up to the break neither keeper was troubled. Ten minutes into the second half an Underwood goal kick was flicked on for substitute Stephens who lifted the ball over a stranded Clark but also over the bar. On the hour Sharpness broke forward down the flank and a cross put in by Kier Bennett was headed back across goal but was cleared straight up the other end and Hill’s Steve Clark had the chance but shot wide. A few minutes later a free kick for Hill saw another Steve Clark effort tipped wide by Sharks keeper Clark. The winner for Sharpness came in the 88th minute when a Bennett cross was acrobatically turned in by Michael Bryant with an overhead kick and 1-0 it was.

Cribbs Reserves hosted Filton Athletic at the Lawns and it was the visitors who rather expectedly started the brighter and took full control of the game and created several good chances and it was only thanks to Cribbs’ 16-year-old debutant keeper Ashby Turner who kept the score goalless with a string of fine saves. Unfortunately, there was a nasty clash of heads between two Filton players forcing substitutions which clearly disrupted their balance and Cribbs took advantage and finished the half the stronger of the teams. Filton picked up after the break and deservedly took a 55th minute lead, when a deep corner was rescued at the far post and poked home by Keiran Cooper. Cribbs, however, remained resolute and stayed in the game and eventually equalised when a Dan Monk free kick into the box was not dealt with by the Filton defence allowing Andy Forward to force home. There were further chances at both ends but no goals and as it happened, a much better point for the home side than the visitors, 1-1.

After a comfortable County Cup win last week Tytherington Rocks welcomed Stoke Gifford SGS United to Hardwicke Playing Fields in a match that started with Gifford looking the better of the two. The game settled with plenty of possession from both sides but no clear-cut chances until ten minutes before the break a ball played out wide by Rocks Stu Nelson was brilliantly controlled by Ali Al Fadhli who took one touch before curling the ball into the top corner for 1-0. Tytherington doubled their lead in time added on when a quick Nelson free kick was met by Jake Haynes who forced keeper Jack Sheppard to push the ball into the path of Ollie Briggs to head home. The second half started in favour of Rocks who made it 3-0 in the 59th minute when Haynes shot was dropped by Sheppard for Nelson to run in and tap home. Tytherington were pushing for a fourth but were hit by an SGS break and Patryk Kosciolek slotted home a through ball with half an hour still left. Both sides were still creating chances and it was Gifford who scored again, in the 83rd minute, when a free kick on the edge of the box was saved by Billy Pullin but Ray Oppong tapped in from close range. Tytherington held out for a big 3-2 win.

Originally Hanham Athletic’s home fixture this match was reversed to Bromley Heath United’s Pomphrey Hill due to a pitch preparation problem at Vicarage Road. With both clubs pleased to get the game on the match started at a fast pace with both teams looking bright. But it was Bromley who created the more clear-cut chances in these early encounters with Hanham clearing one effort off the line, Luke Bessell hitting the post and a goal disallowed for offside. Bromley continued to pile the pressure on creating numerous chances and it was no surprise when they took a 35th minute lead, Hanham failed to clear a free kick and the ball was hammered in from close range by centre half Dec Mannion. They deservedly went two-up just before the break when Charlie Snell played a smashing ball into the far post which was headed back across goal for dangerous Jacob Millward to score. Hanham started the second period brightly, having plenty of the ball but without creating anything clear-cut. And it came as no surprise on the hour when Bromley went further ahead, the ball won in midfield was given to Ollie Hanham who advanced towards goal and unleashed a fierce shot from 25 yards giving the keeper Lincoln Tooker no chance. With the game over the final 25 minutes lost intensity and Bromley fully deserving a 3-0 win.

Once again, the Oldbury Lane pitch was in fantastic condition as Wick welcomed Tewkesbury Town for the first time. Tewkesbury began strongly having the best of the opening exchanges, but it was Wick who had the first effort on goal in the 10th minute when a bursting run by George Lloyd saw his shot clear the crossbar. Immediately after Tewkesbury continued to turn the screw and two minutes later should have taken the lead but a scuffed shot from the edge of the six-yard box only found keeper Mason Hawkins. They continued pressing and a flicked shot on 20 minutes clipped the outside of the post. Wick were limited to the occasional break and on 25 minutes a great cross from the right almost found Cory Langdon in the Tewkesbury 6-yard box. Tewkesbury went in front on the half hour with Scott Jordan rising head and shoulders above the Wick defence to head home and ten minutes later a well struck Town shot was well saved by Hawkins. Wick started the second half much brighter and struck the Tewkesbury post but Town still looked dangerous on the break and doubled their lead on the hour when a Wick clearance fell to Alex Roder on the edge of the box, who initially missed his attempted volley but had time to spin 180 degrees and smash his shot into the Wick net. On 70 minutes Wick reduced the arrears, a great through ball from Deke Langdon set Bailey Rudge away down the left flank, and his fired cross into the Tewkesbury box found an on-rushing Cory Langdon to slot home. Any chance of Wick getting anything out of the game was snuffed out in the 80th minute when a fluke cross by Jamie Goodwin from wide on the right avoided everyone and found the top corner of the net to give Tewkesbury a deserved 3-1 win.

At Highfield Road Chalford gained their first League points of the season against Henbury & Rockleaze, this following up a County Cup win last week. Henbury & Rockleaze started strong but wasted several chances. On 16 minutes, Chalford's Lewis Newell was unlucky as the keeper made a great save. 27 minutes, Harvey Moran received a yellow card for the visitors. Two minutes later, Henbury had an goal disallowed for a clear offside. On 33 minutes, Harvey Moran was sent off after a silly second booking for kicking the ball at the linesman. Cam Kerr's strike was well saved by Trett in the H&R Goal, before a mistake by Keylock left H&R one-on-one, but Hart made a fantastic save. The first half ended 0-0.
At 47 minutes, Chalford earned a penalty, which Andy Maryon converted. At 53 minutes, George James equalised for H&R with a header from a corner. Two minutes later Cam Kerr's scored from a great cross by Marshfield to seal the points.

12th October 2025 - Bishops Cleeve Development claim points

Mark Simpson

results

Despite only drawing at home against a vastly improving Broadwell Amateurs, Sharpness consolidated top spot, with Quedgeley Wanderers suffering their first defeat of the season at Bromley Heath. Chalford remain pointless at the bottom, with Cribbs Reserves and Hanham Athletic scrapping for points just above them.

At Kayte Lane Bishops Cleeve Development came out of the traps quickly against a Cribbs Reserves side that were looking to upset the form guide. Cleeve monopolised possession in a game that offered very little in attacking intent from the visitors with Cleeve creating chances at will. It was half chances from New and Cuzner early on that set the tone with New missing a one-on-one. Cleeve were in front on 31 minutes with a direct free-kick from Tucker despite Cuzner claiming a knick. Cleeve continued to create but were wasteful in front of goal. The second half continued in the same fashion with the hosts moving the ball well without being able to convert an important second. The goal eventually came with Cuzner showing good composure in front of goal to step past two defenders and slot into the bottom corner. Cleeve had breathing space but misses by Smith, Ellerton and Debonis almost contrived their downfall with a Cribbs side growing in confidence, and indeed, Capon converted a penalty following a Pugh handball giving the hosts a tense final five though they held on for a 2-1 win which was a lot closer than it should have been.

At Northway Playing Field Tewkesbury Town took the momentum of consecutive wins against a struggling Chalford side yet to pick up a point. It was a cagey start to the game but Town had the better chances, one put wide by Galloway and Roder thwarted by Portlock when one-on-one. Chalford had a number of breaks which were mostly swept up by keeper Parry. Town were in front on 25, Llewelyn’s floated corner was met by Jack Spark’s looping header. Shortly after Scott Jordan powered down the left and squared to Roder who composed a finish past Portlock for 2-0. Into the second half Chalford came into the match breaking with pace trying to exploit the counter and with twenty minutes left an unmarked James Keylock drifted into the box to finish a long through ball past Parry for 2-1. Chalford then piled on the pressure searching for the equaliser with Town being pinned in their own half, and the visitors causing a number of scrambles in the box but, it wasn’t to be and Town held on for the three points 2-1.

On a crisp afternoon at Arnall Drive in perfect football conditions Henbury & Rockleaze produced a disciplined display of football against Totterdown United and took their chances when it mattered. Totts started strongly retaining the ball well and probing the H&R back line but didn’t manage to test returning goalkeeper Jordan Dunning. H&R took the lead on ten minutes when Sam Bailey cleverly sent Tommy Collins away who finished superbly past Ashley Martin. H&R were now well on top and a minute later Bailey nearly caught Martin out with a header. However, on eighteen minutes Dunning was forced into a good save after Totterdown’s Ollie Lovell got around George James. The game then opened up end-to-end with neither keeper particularly busy although just before the break Matt Harrison drove the ball just over after some neat H&R build up. The hosts started the second half strongly and Bailey should have done better on 48 minutes after being superbly played in by Harrison. On the hour Totts Carter was shown a second yellow reducing them to ten and H&R took full advantage of this five minutes later when Martin did well to punch the ball clear from an H&R corner only for the ball to land at the feet of Nick Jones who smashed it first time into the top corner from 30 yards out. H&R were now well on top and seemingly it was now a matter of how many more they would score, Harvey Moran should have scored on 66 but Martin turned the ball around the post, then on 68 Collins had his header cleared off the line. Moran eventually got his goal on 71 when Harrison sent him through one-on-one and he rolled the ball in for 3-0. H&R were guilty of missing a number of presentable chances to increase the lead but it was job done by then and 3-0 it remained.

At The Bellfield Frampton United took on Ruardean Hill Rangers and Frampton’s first chance fell to Joey Spill on 17 minutes when he was put through on goal but scuffed his shot past Aaron Underwood who did well to scramble back and claw the ball to safety. Ruardean’s Mitch Griffen was unlucky when his header from a cross was well saved by Tom Kaye and Frampton’s Josh Barclay was equally unlucky, his header saved by Underwood. Frampton opened the scoring on 42 minutes when a Sam Sullivan cross was headed against the post by Theo Browne but he followed up to tap home. Frampton had a massive shout for a penalty when it appeared that Freddie Porter was brought down but the shout was turned away. Myron Turner had a great chance to increase Frampton’s lead when one-on-one with Underwood who saved the initial shot, but Turner sent the rebound wide. Ruardean equalised on 82 when Tom Landon headed in from a free-kick and 1-1 it ended.

Quedgeley Wanderers went to Pomphrey Hill in confident mood to take on Bromley Heath United. QW were unbeaten and Bromley hadn’t won since the opening day. However, sometimes form can go out of the window and Bromley started as they meant to go on by not giving QW the space to play possession football while creating some good chances themselves. Bromley deservedly went in front on twelve minutes when a through bouncing ball behind the Quedgeley defence was pounced on by Harley Lock who cleverly lobbed the advancing Keiran Derbyshire. Mason Lewis and Ben O’Brien also went close for Bromley in this period. QW’s best chance to equalise in the first half came when Riley Stokes’ shot from distance was just over. Towards the end of the half a shot from Ollie Hanham was well saved by Derbyshire and a good move down the left ended with the dangerous Lock just missing the target. The second half had QW on the front foot after a rather lack lustre first half and within five minutes were very close to an equaliser when Tom DeQuincy-Adams almost got a toe onto a dangerous ball into the box. But Bromley were also looking dangerous and with the game becoming more and more open their forwards all had a number of good chances to stretch the lead. Will Ferguson in the Bromley goal made a good save on 65 minutes and likewise within a few minutes Derbyshire showed lightning quick reactions to prevent an own-goal. With nether team able to add to the goal tally the game finished with a creditable 1-0 win for the home side.

At the Stoke Gifford Stadium Stoke Gifford SGS United took on Wick in a game that started rather cagily with neither team able to gain any real advantage and with both defences holding strong until Gifford took the lead on 27 minutes with Callum Ball cutting in from the right to score from a tight angle. Wick pressed for the equaliser and got their reward on the half hour when Liam Robson headed home unchallenged from a corner. Two minutes later Gifford restored their lead when Froilan Stella-Lopez scored with a well struck shot from outside the box. Wick then had a player sin-binned but Gifford failed to capitalise. Wick had opportunities to draw level early in the second half with Cory Langdon firing over the bar and a second chance going just wide. Wick’s perseverance paid off when Bayley Rudge scored on 65 minutes to level the score. Both teams pushed for the winner and on 86 minutes a pin-point cross from Ray Oppong was headed home by Harry Ford to put Gifford 3-2 up and they saw out a frenetic finish to secure the points.

At Elm Park the pitch was in great condition for Filton Athletic against Hanham Athletic with both teams trying to get the ball down and play. Filton took an early lead from a free-kick 25 yards out which Trey Merrett stepped up and curled in to the top corner. There then came a flurry of Filton chances, a great team move on the left-hand side with Tom Fry delivering a teasing cross which Keiran Cooper skyed over the bar. Five minutes later a great header back across goal by Chris Hillier was flicked over the bar from six yards by Fry. Against the run of play Hanham equalised in the 35th minute with a great pass through to veteran front-man Coles who smashed in to the top corner. From then on until half time Hanham were on top playing some great football and threatening on several occasions. Filton started the second half on the front foot but Hanham were defending well. Filton made it 2-1 with a fantastic team goal from right to left which Matt Hoare played in Merrett who cut in from the left a curled into the far corner. Filton finally made it 3-1 with a thumping header by Cooper from a great cross by Charlie Peacock. Hanham threatened to get a second in the last five minutes but Filton held strong for a deserved three points.

League leaders Sharpness were held to a goalless draw by Broadwell Amateurs at Hamfields with neither side able to break the deadlock. Sharpness has the better of the first half but couldn't convert their opportunities. Jack Higgs went close but saw his header saved by Watkins. In the 2nd half the closest Sharpness got was a couple of opportunities from long throw ins. One found Archie Mears but his bicycle kick went over the bar. The other chance fell to Kier Bennett but he scuffed his shot & it was cleared off the line. Broadwell had two good opportunities late on when both Davies & Belfitt found themselves through one on one but they couldn't beat Dykes in the home goal. Gallery from Brian Rossiter available Here

5th October 2025 - Quedgeley Wanderers and Sharpness remain unbeaten

Nigel Meaney

results

Quedgeley Wanderers maintained their unbeaten start inflicting Filton Athletics first defeat of the season. Leaders Sharpness remain unbeaten after a good win at Tytherington Rocks. At the other end of the table Chalford are still waiting for their first points after coming up short at home to Stoke Gifford SGS United. Ollie Mason completed a hat-trick as Ruardean Hill Rangers thumped Bromley Heath United whilst neighbours Broadwell Amateurs beat Frampton United to leapfrog them and move third.

At Waterwells Quedgeley Wanderers and Filton Athletic saw both sides put unbeaten records on the line. The game began evenly, with both sides sharing possession in the opening minutes. Quedgeley’s Sam Jackson looked lively down the right flank, testing the Filton defence early on with a strong attacking run in the 12th minute that ended in a goal kick. Filton were physical from the outset, committing several fouls and frustrating the home side, who felt the referee should have been issuing cards. Quedgeley’s early persistence paid off in the 30th minute when Sam Jackson broke the deadlock, putting the Wanderers 1–0 up with a tidy finish. Filton thought they had equalised five minutes later, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Quedgeley went into half-time leading 1–0 after a solid, disciplined first 45 minutes.

The second half started brightly for Quedgeley. Within minutes, Fin Jenner went close with a fine touch and shot just wide of the target. A tactical change in the 51st minute saw Ben Langworthy make way for Billy Osabuohien who doubled the lead two minutes later. Dylan Quick pulled one back on the hour for Filton but Quedgeley remained composed with Kieran Derbyshire in their goal making two good saves to preserve the lead. Quedgeley struck again in the 84th minute to seal the win — Billy Osabuohien grabbed his second of the game after a clever assist from Jenner, making it 3–1. The forward’s pressing late on kept Filton pinned back, as the visitors’ discipline continued to crumble with three late yellow cards for reckless play and dissent. The final whistle confirmed a deserved 3–1 victory for Quedgeley Wanderers, marked by strong defensive work, sharp finishing, and resilience in the face of some robust play.

Top of the table Sharpness made the trip to Hardwicke Playing fields to take on Tytherington Rocks who were undefeated in their last 4 games. An even start with both teams working each other out. Sharpness started to show their form with a few half chances but both teams went in at half time level at 0-0. Second half carried on from first with Sharpness taking control and it took 4 minutes for the deadlock to be broken when a ball through fell to Kier Bennett who slotted home. The lead was doubled 8 minutes later when Tytherington keeper Billy Pullin tripped a Sharpness attacker in the box. James Tainton stepped up to slot the penalty home. Tytherington started to press forward but couldn't get through the Sharpness back line. Sharpness scored a third through Marley Thomas, although Tytherington felt their defender was impeded by the official. In the final few minutes Tytherington scored a consolation goal with a quality lob over Sharpness goalkeeper Peter Dykes by Ollie Briggs.

Broadwell Amateurs welcomed Frampton United to the Hawthorns on a blustery day. The first opportunity of the game falling to Broadwell with Jamie Belfitt picking up a loose ball in the centre, driving forward with the ball, a one two with Ethan Dunscombe on the edge of the box which took Belfitt into the box but he shot into the side net. A chance then for Frampton with Broadwell keeper Jack Watkins committed out wide the cross came into an empty box and was cleared to safety. Broadwell took the lead from a Kian Skidmore low driven corner, a step over by Ethan Dunscombe which went through into the centre of six yard box with Harry Malcolm on hand to smash it in. Broadwell had a chance to extend their lead with Burnard pouncing on an under hit pass across the back line and slipped in Jamie Belfitt on the overlap but the shot was well blocked. Frampton had a chance to level up after a penalty given for a tackle from behind, bit of needless afters with Broadwell’s Harry Knight getting a red card and Frampton’s Marquez getting a yellow, the resulting penalty saved low to the corner by Watkins and away to safety. 1-0 at HT

Second half, a lot of possession for Frampton against the 10 men of Broadwell, who sat back and defended well, with a couple of decent saves by Watkins, then it became 10 v 10 with Frampton’s Marquez picking up a second yellow for an over the top challenge, the game opened up for both sides, 5 mins to go another red for Frampton when Stuart Maule lunged at Watkins. Broadwell seeing the game through and well deserved their 1-0 win, with Jack Watkins and his defenders keeping a fifth successive clean sheet in the league.

Ruardean Hill Rangers made a slow start against visitors Bromley Heath United with Ollie Hanham and Jack Waldron hitting long range shots narrowly wide of the target early on for the visitors. On 20 minute Ruardean Hill take the lead after a floated ball through finds Ollie Mason running in at the back post before slotting past Ferguson in the Bromley goal. Mason get his second on 30 minutes after a goal kick from Aaron Underwood goes through allowing Mason to collect and finish past Ferguson. On 36 minutes Underwood makes a good save from Ollie Hanham. 2-0 at Half Time. After a tight opening to the second half Bromley’s Ollie Hanham has a volley from just outside the area which Underwood tips wide. On the hour Bromley get caught trying to play out from the back and Fin Jones plays Steve Clark in who lifts it just over the bar. On 61 Hill make it 3 after they intercept the ball in midfield and Fin Jones is played in and scores. Ollie Mason grabs his hat-trick after he heads home a ball that whipped in from wide. On 80 mins, a great break from Luke Brown who skins the Bromley defence and lays it on the plate for Steve Clark arriving at the back post to make it 5. Still time for Ollie Hanham to try and get one back from range but Underwood is equal and tips over the bar and Ruardean see out a 5-0 win.

Tewkesbury Town secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over visitors Henbury & Rockleaze, but made heavy work for the win, struggling to break down a resolute defence for much of the afternoon. The game started slowly, with both teams cancelling each other out. Tewkesbury struggled to find any attacking rhythm, finding a well-drilled Henbury & Rockleaze defence difficult to penetrate. The opening 45 minutes were a cagey affair, with the visitors' disciplined shape limiting the hosts to half-chances, meaning neither goalkeeper was seriously tested before the half-time whistle. The breakthrough finally came in the second half. A long ball over the top of the Henbury & Rockleaze back line caused a moment of defensive confusion. Harry Trett in the visitor’s goal rushed out but failed to clear, leaving the net exposed for Jamie Goodwin to react quickest. Goodwin showed excellent composure, coolly slotting the ball home to put Tewkesbury ahead. Tewkesbury's task was significantly eased shortly after taking the lead when the visitors lost their composure. A reckless tackle on Alex Roder resulted in a straight red card for a Henbury & Rockleaze player. Tensions then flared further, and the opposition were reduced to nine players temporarily when another man was sent to the sin bin. With the numerical advantage, Tewkesbury expertly managed the remainder of the game. They controlled possession, utilised the extra space, and professionally saw out a narrow but ultimately deserved victory against a frustrated and short-handed Henbury & Rockleaze side

Chalford remain pointless after a 2-0 defeat at home to Stoke Gifford SGS United. The game began quietly, with little action in the opening stages. Chalford were forced into an early change, with Boulton replacing Zac Marshfield on 20 minutes. On 37 minutes, Stoke Gifford’s Froilan Stella Lopez, put the home side ahead with a well-taken finish and just three minutes later, Stoke doubled their lead when Oscar Sealey’s effort deflected cruelly past the Chalford keeper. Chalford thought they had pulled one back shortly after, with Cam Kerr finding the net in the 42nd minute, but the effort was ruled out for offside. That decision ensured Stoke went into the break with a 2-0 lead. The second half saw fewer chances of note, with both sides battling but failing to create clear opportunities. Stoke Gifford managed the game well and held firm, securing a 2-0 victory at full-time.

Hanham Athletic went down 2-4 at home to Bishops Cleeve Development. In windy conditions Hanham took the lead in the 5th minute when a mistake let in Noah Woodland who finished with a fantastic shot into the top corner for his first goal of the season, Hanham gained confidence from early goal and pushed for a second and almost got it on 18 mins but Ceejay Cummerlin's volley cannoned back off the post and out to safety. Bishop Cleeve equalised on the half hour when George Cuzner rose to head home. Hanham almost retook the lead a minute later when Paul Cole’s shot was deflected and Noah Sunter made a brilliant save. Bishop Cleeve had the first chance of second half George Cuzner rose well again but his header was just wide. Cleeve took the lead on 68 mins George Ellerton was put through and his finish was enough to beat Taylor. It was 3-1 a minute later when a fine cross was volleyed home. Hanham got one back on 80 mins Liam Maggs heading home from a Brandon Barnes corner It was 4-2 on 84 when a corner was headed home and to seal the win for Bishops Cleeve.

Totterdown United hosted Cribbs Reserves and on a windy day came away with a valuable 2-1 win. Totterdown started the game well and dominated possession for pretty much the whole first half. Some sloppy touches in and around the box, ruined some slick passing that got them into good positions. The first half played out in a similar pattern with Cribbs having to dig in, they saw out the half successfully with the score ending 0-0. The second half carried on where the first had finished. Totterdown came out and dominated possession, forcing Cribbs to remain pinned in their half. Totterdown managed to break the deadlock around the 55th minute, some good play up the left hand side saw the ball make its way across the box where Totts right wing back Jack Millard, came alive to slot the ball home. Totterdown regained possession quite quickly but a few minutes of over confidence and sloppy play, saw Cribbs turn the ball over a few times in dangerous areas. Totts got caught one time too many, when Harvey Jasper received a ball on the edge of the box, he dispatched well into the bottom corner. This seemed to kick Totterdown back into gear, with some fresh legs entering the pitch, Totts kicked on. The winner finally came from some good play on the right hand side this time. A great cross found the opposite wing back, Billy Wiltshire unmarked at the far post where he volleyed the ball home. Cribbs put on some pressure late on, with Ashley Martin being swift off his line to make an important stop with seconds to go! Totterdown got over the line in a game they deserved to win but made hard work of it. The game was played in great spirit from both sides. The referee had a very good game and communicated well throughout.
